Literature unites everything that I find exhilarating about life, and most of my spare time is taken up with reading. To me, literature and the written word is mankind's greatest achievement, which is why I am determined to dedicate my life to its study. I am not content with simply reading a text, as I have a hunger to learn everything I can about what I read - how it was written; why it was written; what it means; its place in literature as a whole. I read a catholic range of literature. I particularly enjoy Romantic poetry, as I find it to be an intriguing example of how literature can be used to make a stand against society's established codes, as poets rebelled against previous literary traditions and, contrary to the doctrines of neo-classical literature, focused on emotions and on the individual. Another example of such a rebellion, and another area of fascination to me, is the dystopian novel of the twentieth century. My favourite examples include Orwell's '1984' and 'Animal Farm', Golding's 'Lord of the Flies' , Bradbury's 'Fahrenheit 451' and Huxley's 'Brave New World'. Many of these great works were inspired by, and reacted against, the rise of political extremists during the first half of the century. These works are also often highly satirical, a style which I admire and which has lead me to read works such as Pope's 'The Rape of the Lock', Heller's 'Catch-22' and Ben Elton's cynically satirical plays. I also appreciate the novels of Jane Austen, especially the witty Gothic satire 'Northanger Abbey'. I see literature as both a cause and an effect of history, and so I study history in order to fully appreciate the context of a piece of writing. I find it fascinating how one's knowledge of a historical period can alter one's interpretation of a text. Also, I believe that the study of art can contribute to one's understanding of literary background, for example in the way that Blake's paintings can give an insight into his mind, and thus his poetry. I find that my study of maths is useful as it contributes to my logical and analytical skills, which are vital for the critical appraisal of literature. At the end of year 12 I attended a ten-day residential course at Eton College to study English literature. The course was designed to be of the same intensity, and of a similar level, to university studies. These were ten of the best days of my life, and made me realise that an English course at university would be perfect for me, and that I would be perfect for it. This course also allowed me to refine my interests in the subject, and to look in detail at areas hitherto untouched-upon in my state school education. I have completed a work experience placement at a local architects' office, which I feel taught me many life-skills. Seeing the enthusiasm of the people I worked with showed me that it is important to pursue a career in a subject you love. Therefore, although I do not have a definite idea of where I wish to work in the future, I would like to find employment in an area directly related to English, such as in publishing or journalism. I take part in extra-curricular activities that I feel aid me in my English studies. Being a member of a debating society has increased my discussion abilities, and has taught me how to argue my point while retaining an open mind and being aware of the opinions and interpretations of others. I am a volunteer for a group that helps less-able children to read, as I feel that the ability to appreciate the written word is the most fundamental life-skill that a child can have. I love making music on the guitar and the piano, and I am an avid art-fan. I am part of NAGTY, Young Enterprise and the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

JK Rowling had her midnight cafes; Roald Dahl's garden shed has produced wheelbarrows of children's literature and the Bronte sisters roamed the vast expanse of the Yorkshire moors. I personally retreat to a caravan at the bottom of my garden where I find the creative stimulus required to write prizewinning poetry and biology essays alike. Whilst some people are terrified by, or worse, ambivalent towards modern poetry, I fail to remain unmoved after reading Jean 'Brita'Breeze's Moonwise which epitomises the strength of emotion found within a short verse. The beautiful simplicity of the syntax found in such work inspires my creative writing; my poetry has won national competitions and been published in anthologies. Thus my daily diet of literature is a colourful juxtaposition of John Donne's solipsistic love poems, Tess Durbeyfield with her compassionate mentor Hardy and the infamous nobody Mr Pooter. A level English has not dictated but cultivated my critical opinions through analysis of such texts, and so I have been able to appreciate the subtly of fine writing, for example in Joyce's 'Dubliners' The other subjects I am taking for A level support and complement my continual study of English. The methodology applied to research and evaluate critical arguments undertaken for A level history independent study are paralleled during my consultations with Bradly about Othello. A level biology demands the application of analysis with knowledge, and through my AS physics course I was selected to participate in the Engineering scheme, which enhances my ability to work in a team and to produce reports and presentations. Such attributes were firmly in place after my work experience at the publicity department of Bloomsbury publishing, and in my duties as elected Head Girl. The majority of my extra-curricular activities demonstrate the aptitude I have for English; I write articles for the school magazine, take acting coaching and was the lead role in an all-female production of William Golding's Lord of the Flies. I was awarded a sports scholarship for sixth form, play hockey for the school first XI and represent Somerset at the South West England hockey trials. To the amazement and horror of my friends I have started a running club at my college and the sport has given me great self-motivation and a sense of humour. My outside interests are huge, literally. After hockey and orchestra I regularly have to employ my skills as a manipulator to fit my cello and hockey goal keeping kit in the boot. Although some would argue the study for an English degree is not vocational I see the next few years of my life as the opportunity to become immersed in a subject I love. To develop my potential as a writer, I need to analyse and understand the work of those who inhabit library shelves. This course offers me the chance to explore the depths of Shakespeare, unravel the mysteries of Byron and grow in confidence as a literacy critic and person.

I view Engineering as a challenging and exciting career. I believe engineers to be more vital in today's society than ever before. Their understanding of the requirements of people today and how they work towards making the world a better place for the rest of us is astonishing. I am eager to specialise in this subject with a specific interest in artificial intelligence and high speed communication networks such as fibre optics. I have always been fascinated by the mechanism by which devices function. I have enjoyed many sections of my Physics course; however the wave topics have interested me the most, such as wave-particle duality and inference of waves. I also study Mathematics and Chemistry, where you need to understand and apply concepts quickly, easily and calculate accurately, which are essential skills needed in the study of Engineering. Having thoroughly enjoyed the academic study of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, I have chosen a degree that will enable me to combine theory with a practical application. My work experience at a controls manufacturing company which specialised in the production of refrigeration control and management systems was an enjoyable and challenging experience. I observed the manufacture of refrigeration control systems from the design stage to the final finished product. I also observed the use of CAD in the design stages and learnt about the precision and responsibility with which Engineers must work. My work experience gave me a valuable insight to my degree area and confirmed that Engineering is a Degree that I will thoroughly enjoy. I also had the opportunity to visit the AstraZeneca plant in Avonmouth last year, where I saw the how drugs are manufactured on an industrial scale; it was simply fascinating to watch. This experience has given me the zeal to try to succeed at becoming an Engineer. To widen my view of the Engineering field and keep up to date with recent developments I regularly read the scientific journals such as New Scientist. This has given me a broader picture of the qualities and skills required to be a good Engineer. Furthermore, I have also worked in a pharmacy, which allowed me to develop skills in working as a part of a team such as listening to others views then contribute my own. It has also improved my concentration massively because one lapse in concentration could result in wrong dosages being administered which could be fatal. This has also boosted my confidence significantly. In addition to my academic studies, I have always enjoyed undertaking sports like badminton and squash. I am also currently learning to swim at my local sports centre where I go every weekend. In addition, I am also currently planning to run in the Bath half marathon in March 2007. Furthermore, I make good use of computers by using them to maintain a website to research subjects on the internet. I have held the responsibility of being a house prefect which has developed my speaking, listening and time management skills. I have also mentored a year 11 student thought his GCSE year helping him with exam strategies and organisation skills. This has improved my communication skills and makes me feel like a respected member of the 6th form passing on the benefit of my experiences. Engineering is a subject which has greatly intrigued me for most of my life. I will bring determination and enthusiasm to my studies and feel I can do well in the University environment. I am determined to achieve my long held ambition to become an Engineer and to enjoy the stimulation that this career offers.

In the 21st century engineering plays a more vital role in our lives than ever before. As I look around myself I observe numerous devices that were designed and constructed by engineers. This fills me with a desire to be a part of this great prolific system of creativity and ingenuity. There are many factors that have promoted my choice of pursuing a career in engineering. Since my childhood I have been fascinated by the mechanism by which devices function. I recall often opening numerous devices to observe the contraptions that lay within. My fascination has not waned over the years; instead it has been nurtured by the environment that I inhabit. My father is a computer engineer and many of my uncles have occupations in the field of engineering. Living in the residential camp of a multinational oil company has provided me with ample opportunities to converse with renowned engineers. Through my observations I have noticed that engineers are dedicated individuals that work towards making the world a better place for the rest of us. At my high school I joined the Physicists Society and the Applied Mathematics Society. It was through this experience that I discovered my profound interest in Physics and the application of Mathematics to real world scenarios. To complement this I had a wonderful Physics teacher that enriched my learning experience. Both my physics teacher and my guidance counsellor encouraged me to pursue a degree in engineering as they believed that I had the necessary skills. It was then that I decided that I would certainly enter the field of engineering. With this decision in mind I began reading numerous scientific journals such as New Scientist, Scientific American and National Geographic to keep abreast of any advancement in the field of engineering. I also took a more profound interest in Physics experiments and found that I particularly enjoyed experiments involving circuits. I attended two Engineering Education Programs offered by Saudi Aramco that helped me understand more about my prospective career. I worked assiduously and achieved numerous awards such as the Physicist of the Year Award, Advanced Mathematics Achievement Award and the Business Studies Merit Award. I was also the Valedictorian for Grades 9 and 10. To complement my academic life I have participated actively in extracurricular activities both outside the school and inside it. I founded the Students Association and currently operate it as the Secretary-General. As the Secretary-General I organised two science fairs, held numerous debates and initiated a Model United Nations. I addressed numerous speeches to the school and actively participated in debates at the Model UN. I feel that these activities have refined my communication skills. I also learnt how to organise and coordinate events successfully. I participated in a variety of sports and played on both the school's soccer and cricket team. These sports have shown me the importance of teamwork and allow me to participate prolifically in a team. I hope that my captaincy of the school cricket team and my role in the Students Association have developed the leadership skills that I will require at university and later in my career. Along with my interest in reading scientific journals I find reading fiction to be a gratifying experience. I read fiction from various genres, ranging from the works of Charles Dickens to the science fiction of Michael Crichton. I find that reading allows me to utilise my imagination. I also enjoy writing creatively, bicycling and designing machinery. Although I am applying as an international student I often visit the United Kingdom and believe that I will be able to adapt to life there. As I am taking the most rigorous course that my school offers I feel confident that I will be able to cope with the assiduous work required at university. As an engineer I would like to be at the forefront of engineering research, advancing the integration of the concepts of physics, chemistry and biology resulting in an amelioration of our daily lives.

My increasing enthusiasm for news at local, national and international levels, together with my long-standing ambition to become a journalist, makes a journalistic course a natural choice for me. My reason for wanting to enter into the field of journalism can quite simply be put down to a developing awareness of the need for informed and balanced representation of facts. On completing my GCSEs, financial circumstances meant I had to spend three years in full time employment. Returning to education in 2001, I found that the sense of responsibility, focus and determination that had been magnified in the workplace proved very useful in motivating me to pursue my academic and career aspirations. Having demonstrated an ability to adapt to different roles in the workplace, I have had no problems adapting to an academic environment. A great believer in education, I see the role of the journalist as an educating force, an incredibly important one. My study of 'A' Level Government and Politics has served to highlight the importance of informing the public about how decisions being made elsewhere are affecting their lives. It has been particularly interesting to study the role of the media in the political arena and I look forward to studying the role of the media in society, at university. I have always had a natural flair for writing, which has further been improved by my study of 'A' Level English Language and Literature. This subject has given me the skills and versatility to differentiate between and accommodate, the written and the spoken word. It has also given me a deeper understanding of the power of the English language. The development of these skills has extended into my study of 'A' Level Classical Civilisation. Each of my current areas of study has served to nurture my naturally inquisitive nature and improve my analytical and debating skills. Simultaneously, my part time position as a telecommunications assistant has proved useful in enhancing the communication and negotiating skills that are essential for any journalist. Work experience placements at my local newspaper, The South Wales Evening Post and local radio station, The Wave, have confirmed my ambition to enter into the field of journalism. My own use of online and interactive news services has encouraged my interest in the multimedia aspect of journalism. Studying Key Skills in Information Technology has given me the grounding to develop the skills that new communication technology demands. I am currently part of the Communications Team at Gorseinon College, writing articles for the college magazine and presenting news on the college radio station. I thoroughly enjoy working within such a diverse team. Outside of my academic routine I have a number of hobbies and interests. I have a passion for singing and have won many competitions in this field. Art is another talent I have developed considerably since leaving comprehensive school. In the context of my chosen undergraduate programme, I hope that my composition skills will prove useful in studying the role and effects of visual images in newspapers and on television. I attend classes in power yoga on a weekly basis in order to keep fit and look forward to sampling what university has to offer in the way of sports societies and music facilities. Being at an institute of further education has given me the discipline needed for independent learning which I have put into practice by teaching myself Teeline shorthand. Having proven my ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, I am confident that I am prepared for the challenges of higher education and the world of journalism.

I wish to study graphic design as it is a simulating subject which enables me to express my creative side and help me contribute to shaping society's visual landscape. By doing this course I want to create exciting innovative work to deliver memorable visual messages through all media. I hope to show my flare for creativity whilst using my drawing skills in an imaginative approach to produce inventive pieces of work expressing my own style. The other subjects I am currently studying are English and Sociology and I believe these subjects will provide me with an ideal foundation for the entrance of the graphic design course. English has developed my analytical skills whereas Sociology has given me a valuable insight into the behaviour of the modern corporate world. During the years I have been studying, there has not been a single day, where I have felt that I have not achieved something new. Everyday I am faced with many different challenges and tasks, which most of the time I try my hardest to overcome. I feel that I can be successful in the future if I sacrifice more of my leisure time and devote it to hard work. I know that I am capable of achieving good standards of work in whichever line of work. I am involved in During my school career I achieved many certificates and took part in many activities such as being a member of the school netball team. I have also voluntarily helped younger members with reading difficulties. I believe this has enhanced my interpersonal skills. Attending art clubs at school gave me the opportunity to help at the community centre by designing posters and banners. By getting the advantage to do this has extended the high quality standard of my creative drawing skills. During my final two years at school, I was appointed as a prefect. In addition, I consider myself to be an assertive, hardworking and highly motivated individual who works well both independently and with others. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the keyboard. I also play badminton in the local sports club during the summer and enjoy designing and painting on fabrics such as silk and canvas. My other interests include travelling to various countries which has enhanced my cultural understanding and has made me more open minded as an individual. I have also been to many modern exhibitions such as Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. Thought my years in school and sixth form I have learnt how to try my best to achieve what I am aiming at. Growing up in rural South Carolina, healthcare services were truly inadequate. While many skilled professionals offered excellent medical care, our community lacked healthcare options, facing the realities of limited transportation, income and health insurance. At home, my mother's battle with breast cancer underscored the dire need to address healthcare disparities. A graduate Physician Assistant program will bring credence to my research and desire to address rural women's health. Upon building my exposure, I envision practicing in rural South Carolina, bringing positive healthcare outcomes, preventative medicine, and hope. I bring with me a foundation in Chemistry coupled with healthcare shadowing in various set-ups, such as an ER, Dermatologist's office, and my Personal Care Assistant work in adult daycare. While academics taught me the body's functions, my volunteer/shadowing experiences brought insights into the responsibilities and expectations of medical professionals. Furthermore, direct-patient experiences taught me an invaluable interpersonal lesson: although education and skills are critically important in treating patients, a kind word can be equally important as performing diagnostic care. As a mom, I have learned to interpret and rely upon body language, physical changes and my patient's history to make healthcare decisions. Emergencies happen, and you have to react decisively. In other situations, patience and a gentle demeanor are needed. These strategies are not unlike those used in professional healthcare situations. The deep feelings that I have about nursing are connected to being a young, 23 year old, Chinese and Filipino female. In other words, there are multiple reasons why I am so very attracted to a career of service to others through psychiatric nursing. I see caring for others as a natural part of womanhood; we are the mothers and the primary care-givers in life; also being Asian, with our prominent sense of duty to the community and social well-being. I have special concern for the mentally ill and this is why I choose to major in Psychology. I am a progressive, and I want to contribute to making care for the mentally ill increasingly humane and effective. I understand the nurse to be a person who takes great pride in her service to others and is willing to make sacrifices to assure that others are comfortable. I seek advanced specialty preparation as a nurse because I believe that this is the correct professional choice for me given my character and preparation. I hope to continue to focus special attention on the mental healthcare issues that are especially relevant to the large Asian population in California, and I believe XXXX's continued support for ethnic and social diversity will provide me with an excellent foundation to build upon. Many Chinese and Filipinos downplay the importance of mental health issues and treatment; I am concerned, therefore, with the fact that many who need help, do not receive it, with the mentally ill generally cared for at home. I look forward to working in education, helping to enlighten Asian-American populations of the many options for and benefits that result from finding proper mental health treatment. I believe that I have great interpersonal skills, which are so important for psychiatric nursing, and that I have the determination and high level of motivation necessary to become a leader in my field. I take pride in being a good listener as I often find that people find me very easy to talk to. For this reason, I have even taken classes on how to listen more attentively. I know that a crucial part of being successful in the nursing profession is being able to communicate effectively, which is why I have completed both interpersonal communication as well as oral communication classes. I work very hard to earn the respect of those that I communicate with by taking a sincere interest in them and I see this as key to success in the practice of psychiatric nursing. I am drawn to this specialty because of my love for people, science, the human mind, and the mysteries of mental illness. I am especially interested in intensive care psychology and the analysis and case management of mentally ill patients. My experience with the XXXX Women's Center in Santa Cruz, CA in a program called Moms and Kids, has helped me to mature greatly and better understand the intricate psychological bond between mothers and children as well as the difficulties associated with abuse. I worked with children from 2 to 6. Through my experience as a Resident Assistant, I have better learned how to deal with young adults of many different cultures and personalities and the stress and responsibility of being on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I currently hold two positions, one in public relations and the other with an integrative pharmacy, which combines herbal, homeopathic, and conventional medicine. I see both of these experiences as valuable preparation for my career in nursing. I have worked extremely hard in school and taken a special interest in things that have been directly related to my central interest, such as anatomy and physiology. I have taken these classes in a one year program as well as two other classes in order to better prepare myself for graduate study in nursing.. While my overall GPA is not spectacular, my prerequisite GPA is almost a 4.0. I am used to working under high degrees of pressure, making quick decisions and know when to ask for help or collaboration. My long term goal is to work as a nursing administrator and to have the opportunity to design and implement mental health education programs and initiatives both for my patients and the broader community. My plan is to embody XXXX's mission to provide excellent care in the form of much needed public service. I am a Philippine citizen as well as an American and I hope to someday go to the Philippines to help better educate my people about mental healthcare issues and how this is related to nursing care, how to better recognize, respond to, and especially prevent mental illness. A young Latina woman from New York, I was born in Oceanside and moved to the Dominican Republic at 2 years old. I came back to the U.S. permanently at the age of 12 and have been back now for 16 years. The strongest aspect of my application to your M.S. Program to become an Adult Nurse Practitioner is my profound passion for helping Spanish-speaking people to better maintain their health through awareness of and access to the health care system and especially the importance of preventative medicine. I am a very caring, compassionate person; and caring for others is my calling in life. At 28 years old, I feel strongly that I have enough professional and personal experience in life to make me an optimal candidate, combining the energy of youth with maturity, what I have learned thus far throughout my struggles, as a woman and a multicultural and multilingual person, and finally as a nurse who truly loves her work. Ten years from now, I would like to be in charge of an outpatient cardiology clinic in an underserved, Spanish-speaking community. It is my long term professional goal to spend the rest of my life with the joy of hands on nursing for my people, caring for those who are not only under-served, but the segment of our population with the greatest population increase. Looking forward to serving as an example to younger nurses as the years progress, as a result of hard work, and unbounded concern with genuine affection and respect for our patients. I so look forward to having a greater share in the responsibility that goes with nursing, in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiac conditions. I am also happy that I have fully made up my mind in what area to devote the balance of my professional life, another 40 or 50 years: the heart. The mysteries of the heart, for me, are the center of the world: instructing patients about important recognition of early signs and symptoms of cardiac disease, along with the specific nutritional information that Latinos' need to know, the truth about many cherished ethnic foods and doing this, of course, in Spanish. Among my professional plans for the future are conducting workshops and health fairs at different locations in poor areas of NYC, Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island, etc., where myself and other staff perform blood pressure screenings, etc. I am ready to become a nursing leadership and I see XXXX College as the flagship program in this area. Accepting me to your program will make my dream come true and I will relish the joy of service to others for the rest of my life, above all, the success of my students. Your program is the best preparation for the certification that I need to realize my own full potential, as a nurse practitioner certified by the New York State Education Department. Civil war, suffering, poverty and death are things that most Americans, will thankfully never personally experience. Before I was fourteen, I had endured all four. I was born in Dushanbe, Tajikistan and lived through half of a civil war, coming to America with my family as the devastation continued in my homeland. As I made my way through the streets of New York City, a fourteen year old in a land where I didn't know the language, my family and I began again. My degree choice, like my life, has been molded by my experiences. The events I've been caught up in created whirlwinds of emotion which you either survive or are crushed by. While I carry my scars, I am stronger because of my past. My father contracted cancer while I was getting my BS in biology. I was there when he was diagnosed, I recall his treatments, and our elation when the cancer was defeated. It was very clear to me: my feet were firmly on the path to becoming a doctor. My education goes well beyond those of my classmates. While my classmates were enjoying their weekends off, I was keeping my education alive by volunteering at a local high school as a tutor in biology and chemistry. When summertime came, my classmates were vacationing while I was volunteering at a nearby hospital. I managed my time between my undergraduate studies and full-time work to help alleviate the financial difficulties of my family during the harsh times of emigration and my dad's cancer. My education continued as I worked in the immunology laboratory at XXXX University, studying under Dr. XXXX; I was very fortunate, as XXXX has one of the only bio-safety level 4 (BSL-4) laboratories in a university setting in the United States. The work wasn't simply routine: I studied autoantibodies, using the Western blot technique, performed DNA extractions, PCRs, cloning and ELISAs. Dr. XXXX helped me to think critically and encouraged me to work independently. The situations created in the lab allowed me to problem solve and to use the knowledge I have gained in the classroom. After graduating I began working in a doctor's office, where I began to learn to work with patients, and how an active practice works. I was given a variety of responsibilities.  Interviewing patients tested, proved and strengthened my social skills. Taking blood pressure, dressing wounds and executing other procedures, like an ECG, with the doctor's approval, allowed me to become more confident and strengthened my desire to enter the medical field. I met people of many different backgrounds, and found I could relate to them all. Experiences such as these are rarely encountered in the classroom. While students are advised to seek out real life experience, it is not mandatory. I cannot help but wonder how students can grow and mature in their fields without experiencing something beyond the classroom. Our ambitions, our dreams, and our future are the things that keep us moving forward. I cannot go forward without thinking of those in need; it is in my blood, and drawn from my experiences. I often hear of places like my homeland where governmental subsidies do not or cannot reach, and others where they fail to scratch the surface of need. In others, the divide between the rich and the poor determines diagnostics, treatments and medicine. The events that I witnessed in Dushanbe, the ugly truths, are now locked away, buried beneath a facelift ten years in the making. I have stared at a truth few can bear. I know that I will never forget the past, but these tragedies have not crushed my spirit or my will. There is no doubt in my mind that my future is in helping people survive. Hunkered down, twelve years old in a war-torn country, trying to purify water by boiling it on a little electric burner, I felt helpless. But I will never again be helpless to help.

I am an Asian-Indian woman 21 years old who lives in Texas and very much wants to study towards being a doctor in your program at the XXXX University. I have already enjoyed extensive professional exposure to the healthcare setting, diseases, symptoms, and, most importantly, patient care and well being. I feel that I have gained a great deal of highly valuable experience from my studies in the area of nursing and my employment experience that makes me a strong candidate for your Pre-Medical Program. I want to work towards becoming a doctor in your program because this is my life long dream and represents the greatest goal of service to others to which I can aspire. I look forward to a very rigorous eight months of really hard study and an opportunity to prove myself as a valuable and hard working student in the 8 months of introductory study leading up to entry into the Basic Sciences Program, and then Medical School. I am especially pleased to report that I have taken courses in Human Anatomy as part of my training in nursing and I am looking forward, in particular, to classes in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Cell Biology, and Medical Terminology. Over the last couple of years, I have had the privilege of working as a nurse's aid for various periods of time at the XXXX Hospital in Houston in Medical/Surgical, ER, Dialysis, PACU, L&D, and the Newborn Unit; at XXXX Medical Center in Humble, TX in Medical/Surgical, OR, Endoscopy, and Pediatrics; XXXX Hospital in Cleveland, TX in Medical/Surgical; XXXX Clinic in Humble; The XXXX Clinic in Kingwood, TX; the Houston XXXX Clinic, and the XXXX Hospital in Woodlands in Medical/Surgical and X-Ray. Since graduating from high school, I have been studying at XXXX Colleges. I am graduating this month, August, 2007, as from XXXX's Licensed Vocational Nursing Program. The Medical University of XXXX in Nevis is my first choice for continuing my studies because it strikes me as the perfect place to find the right tools to help me live my life happily and fulfill my dreams of working in health care education. I am especially fascinated with the area of health care education and preventative medicine. I heartily support the idea of learning is a lifelong process, and I want to continue always to learn new and helpful tools in the areas of preventative medicine and health care. I am a 24-year-old Iranian man, born in Miami, where I lived before moving to Iran with my family at the age of 11. My parents had almost always spoken to me in English, and of great challenges build determination and strength of character. Medical doctors were my childhood heroes and greatest role models. I moved back to Miami when I was 17. My parents had almost always spoken to me in English, and completed high school here. I now have a BS Degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry completed high school here. I now have a BS Degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Spanish from the University XXXX, graduating in 2006, and last month, July of 2007, I completed my MS Degree in Biomedical Science from XXXX University. My MS Degree is perhaps the single strongest aspect of my application. I found my anatomy lab particularly fascinating and all of my studies to be excellent preparation for medical school. I always performed my dissections diligently, trying to unveil as many structures as I could, often spending almost an hour looking for a particular delicate nerve or vessel, when my group members would insist on moving to the next objective. Usually, I found what I was looking for. I am a determined individual who, as a doctor, will never give up on his patients. I firmly believe that health is the most valuable blessing one can receive, enabling us to enjoy our surroundings and find satisfaction in our accomplishments. This is why practicing medicine will be such a great joy, the privilege of returning a sick person to health, restoring the happiness that has been lost to illness, giving someone additional time to share with loved ones. I have my heart set on becoming a surgeon; I am not yet certain which area of surgery I will wish to specialize, although I do find Otolarygnology especially exciting. I am most attracted to the challenge represented by surgery and this sustains my determination. The practice of medicine is my vocation, completely fulfilling my sense of destiny through service to others. I see surgery as both an art form and a spiritual exercise, something that one constantly struggles to improve and further develop. I like hands on work and interaction with patients and I want very much to spend the balance of my life treating patients. I admire and respect hard work and the opportunity to confront profound difficulties and challenges and very much look forward to the rigorous character of your medical program and its emphasis on research preparedness. Medicine is also where science and art come together for me, and I keenly aspire to a broad based and thoroughgoing education in the scientific foundations of the practice of medicine. My mother's uncle, Dr. XXXX, helped to inspire me. While practicing medicine in Tehran, he still found time to visit a nearby village and to tend to poor people, often in his home, inviting extended families to spend several days with him, living and dining in his large guest house with garden, treating them one at a time in his basement clinic, all free of charge. I aspire to a similar type of service to others. My long term goal is to have a surgery practice in a suburban area, while devoting some of my time each year to the service of the medically underserved. It has primarily been my dream of serving the medically underserved that has motivated me to minor in Spanish and continue to spend large amounts of time increasingly perfecting my use of this language. I am someone who celebrates America's diversity and often communicates especially well with other multicultural individuals. I feel strongly that knowing other languages and having the privilege of extended interactions with people from many cultures will help me to be able to provide optimal treatment for members of these cultures who are my patients. I have long been a very determined person and my dream of becoming a doctor has been my central driving force. I am a very mature and emotionally stable individual and I feel that I am a strong candidate for medical school, in part, because of my positive attitude and enormous dedication to my work, and how much I look forward to the rigors of this instruction. I look forward to spending the balance of my professional life aiding in the construction of a more equitable and effective health care system here in the U.S. and, perhaps, in the developing world as well. I am attracted to the idea of working some day on an international level with an organization such as Doctors Without Borders. My dream is to be a positive influence and force in society by working to improve the quality of health care in my community. I am a cosmopolitan young man who still visits relatives in Iran and is quite familiar with international problems and issues, especially with respect to the Third World. I have also traveled to Holland, France, the Caribbean, and most recently Costa Rica. I plan on moving to a Latin American country for an extended visit prior to beginning medical school in order to further strengthen my Spanish skills, because it is very important to me to become an excellent doctor in this language as well.
