The Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MS or MPAS) Program prepares students for clinical positions as primary care physician assistants. The course of study usually requires at least two years of consecutive coursework for students who have met the prerequisite requirements and been admitted to the program. Admission is limited and competitive.
Physician assistants are highly skilled medical professionals who have for over 40 years functioned as members of a team delivering quality healthcare. Working alongside physicians, PAs provide medical services traditionally performed by physicians. These services include taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting tests, diagnosing and treating medical conditions, educating and counseling patients, performing minor medical/surgical procedures, and, in most states, prescribing medications. Specific PA's duties are determined in accordance with physician supervision.

I have dreamed of a career in health care for many years. Now that I am finishing up my undergraduate studies in Biology, I am keenly looking forward to entering a Physician Assistant program next fall, 2019. I am fascinated with everything having to do with medicine and I am a strong believer that it is best to pursue the area where one’s professional passion lies. Now 36, I am pushing the age limits for medical school. I feel that I am a good fit for the role of Physician Assistant for many reasons; most of all, because of the sheer joy that I find in contact with patients, the kind of extensive and intimate contact enjoyed by the Physician Assistant.
My grandmother was a nurse who was very dedicated to the poor and underserved in rural Florida. Along with my hard-working mother who also taught me to reach for the stars, and always lend a helping hand along the way, they are my first and foremost role models. It is principally they who taught me the basic skills and attitude that have brought me to this stage, as I hope to be selected to attend and complete a Master’s Degree Program in Physician Assistant Studies. I spent much of every summer learning about rural medicine from my grandmother, who fostered in me a deep and abiding desire to also serve the health needs of the rural poor, many of whom, like us, are Black.
I grew up in Iran and for almost as long as I can remember I day dreamed of becoming a health care worker, caring for and curing the sick. My dedication to this goal has had a lot to do with my religious faith, since my family and I are devout Christians. Unfortunately, Christians are discriminated against in Iran and my mother was even denied medical attention in an emergency situation on the basis of her religion. I am thankful that America provided us with a refuge and we have now spent the last three years building a wonderful new life in America, our new home. I have also been preparing myself for a return to graduate school in my chosen field, Physician Assistant Studies.
