I possess a bachelor’s degree in Food Science from XXXX University and have five years of experience in product development, food technology, and research. My goal in pursuing a master’s degree at XXU is to acquire advanced expertise to contribute meaningful solutions to food-related challenges in less developed economies, particularly in Africa. In the long run, I aim to lead research initiatives in the private sector or within an NGO, focusing on providing reliable, affordable, and nutritious foods to underserved populations.

Being a bicultural Kenyan American, I am keenly aware of the stark contrast between the abundance of high-quality, long-shelf-life foods in developed countries and the food insecurity in many African regions. Growing up in Kenya, I saw firsthand the impact of relying on a limited range of perishable foods and unstable supply chains. These experiences fueled my early desire not just to earn a living, but to make a significant difference. Observing the abundance in the United States strengthened my determination to study Food Science and use my knowledge to enhance food security in Africa and beyond.

My professional experience spans various roles and settings, and along with my undergraduate education, it has equipped me to contribute to—and benefit from—your program. I am eager to share insights from my academic, personal, and professional experiences, while also learning from the diverse perspectives of my fellow students.
