Coming to America from China was a choice I made to pursue the finest chemical engineering education possible. Indeed, ____'s reputation carries over to China, and stands out amongst the background noise of other universities. ____’s affiliations with such legendary schools as MIT, Caltech and Carnegie Mellon are assurances of an unsurpassed educational experience, and a commitment to academic excellence. More importantly, ____'s ability to place 98% of graduates into relevant careers within three months of graduating is inspiring. It is my hope that my academic relationship with ____ will continue; to bring my future to fruition, I intend to work my way through ____’s Ph.D. program as well.
“The scientist explores what is; the engineer creates what has not been” according to Theodore Von Karman. Van Karman's words inspire me to become the finest Chemical Engineer I can. I have developed personal standards of how to conduct myself in life, to be disciplined, persistent in my pursuits and to work hard at everything that I do. I have an inquisitive nature and enjoy challenges and mysteries. Resolving to take on the intellectual challenges Chemical Engineering offered, I have dedicated myself to its pursuit. While biochemistry and analytical chemistry were options for my academic and career path, they are not as relevant to current trends, nor would they bring me the same level of professional or personal satisfaction. The field is becoming increasingly significant in terms of its role in daily life. Chemical Engineering fits very well into where I have been, my aptitudes and where I want to go in terms of my career. Nothing would bring me greater satisfaction than to improve chemical technologies and create new products that improve the quality of life of communities.
I embrace the way that Chemical Engineering requires a great deal of interdisciplinary abilities to be successful. My academic record of accomplishment speaks of a foundation in Math, Calculus and Physics that is solid, and this foundation will aid me tremendously in the understanding and applications of such core concepts as reaction engineering, kinetics, thermodynamics, process mathematics, and thermodynamics.
Winning the Silver Trophy of Chemical Engineering Design, issued by the China National Chemical Engineering Association, belies the amount of work and understanding involved in the design of a production chain. During the design process and planning, I had to consider issues not normally thought of by burgeoning chemical engineers, such as economics, and reducing the overall cost of developing a project. Simultaneously, I displayed my time management skills, attending to all my academic requirements and earning an excellent GPA.
I have a great deal to offer ____’s program as I have attained an elevated level of cultural competency. Engineers never work in a vacuum, and must rely on their multidisciplinary teamwork experiences, and interpersonal skills to achieve their aims. Due to my cultural experiences in China and in America, I am adept at effectively interacting in a group of scientists from a range of backgrounds. I bring with me a world view that has been developed from having been born and raised in China but also has been tempered by seeing China from an American viewpoint; it truly has changed things for me forever. On the most practical level, I have proven my abilities not only in Chinese but in English as well, earning perfect marks on the math portion of the GRE.
There are countless opportunities in the field of Chemical Engineering, and standing in the middle of it, one cannot see its edges.
