Completing my MS in Telecommunications at the University of ____ at ____ and graduating in 2005 were the most fulfilling years of my life. Although I am a US citizen, I returned to my homeland, Sudan, to help expand Internet access to more of my people. Since 2011, I have held the position of Chief Technical Officer at ____ Telecommunication Company, a major player in Sudan's communications sector, and I have thoroughly enjoyed contributing to their growth and success.
I started working for XXXX shortly after earning my Master’s Degree at UXXX in 2006, just a year after they launched operations. I have been with them from the outset, assisting in building a telecommunications company almost from scratch. This experience has been invaluable, equipping me with practical knowledge that I believe will enable me to make significant contributions to your PHD Program, especially considering the technological and economic challenges we face in a place like Sudan.
I am deeply convinced that expanding Internet access promotes global peace and security, not only in my own troubled country, which is in the midst of a longstanding civil war, but also across Africa and the Developing World. "Peace through prosperity" is my motto. I firmly believe that increasing Internet access in the Developing World is our best opportunity to alleviate poverty. This is particularly relevant as Internet and telecom services provide employment for many people in roles such as selling prepaid phone cards, mobile phones and accessories, repairing devices, and offering music and video services. The benefits of the Internet are vast and evident, greatly benefiting the 5 million people living in Sudan. This is why I have chosen to dedicate my life to expanding Internet access.
Completing the PHD in Interdisciplinary Telecommunications at the University of ____ will be the pinnacle of my life achievements thus far. There is nothing I am more passionate about than studying, and I eagerly anticipate fully immersing myself in the study of how innovation, regulation, and policies can enhance the performance of the telecom industry to help emerging market societies become more productive. Through Internet access, we aim to participate in the global marketplace, leading to a better quality of life through improved education, awareness, and broadband penetration, particularly so that our children might benefit.
My long-term goal is to become a professor and consultant in telecommunication strategies, policies, and regulation. I might also consider becoming a CEO one day, as I have already reached the position of CTO in a major telecom company within an emerging market. My experience in both developed and developing markets should serve me well in the future.
Thank you for considering my application.
