Personal Purpose Statement Example for Grad School, MS Bacteriology Thai Applicant

I was raised by my grandparents in a secluded part of rural Thailand, surrounded by animals and nature. From a very young age, I felt a deep connection with the natural world, perceiving everything around me as vibrant and alive. This early bond with nature inspired me to major in Biology when I enrolled at XXXX University.

During my college years, I supported myself by working at an aquarium. I also actively participated in the Thai Astronomy Society, where I quickly rose to the position of group leader within just over a year. After earning my degree, I became a project assistant in a hematology lab at Ramathibodi Hospital. There, I gained extensive knowledge of molecular techniques like Electrophoresis and Western Blot. Following the passing of my grandparents and the sale of their property, I relocated to the USA. I immediately started working long hours in various roles such as a restaurant worker, store clerk, and factory worker. Eventually, I trained as a phlebotomist and secured a position at XXXX Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Driven by my aspiration to become a scientist, I enrolled in the Clinical Laboratory Technician Program at XXXX. Balancing full-time classes, I worked over 50 hours a week at night.

Having recently completed my BS in Clinical Laboratory Science with a minor in Chemistry from the University of XXXX, I now recognize my potential to excel as a world-class scientist. Despite the challenges of studying and working simultaneously, I have honed exceptional time management skills, earning a spot on the Dean's List for three semesters. I also tutored fellow students in basic chemistry, which I found rewarding as it allowed me to connect with others and share my passion for science.

After graduating from the XXXX Technical College, I spent several years in a microbiology laboratory within the food industry, focusing on studying and analyzing bacteria, preparing media and reagents, setting up cultures, performing biochemical tests, and executing molecular and serological techniques. Despite a demanding schedule of full-time work and study, I dedicated many hours to volunteering with the American Red Cross in the Southeastern Wisconsin First Aid Service Team. We provide immediate, temporary care to individuals who become sick or injured at community events.

My volunteer work has been crucial in developing my professional communication and human relations skills in English. My time management abilities and calm demeanor led to my graduation from XXXX with University Commencement Honors, and I was also recognized by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. My long-term ambition is to further my education and become a teacher or researcher. I possess the tools and determination to thrive in increasingly challenging environments, with a strong academic foundation in biology and chemistry, and an eagerness to learn. I have laboratory experience and collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

The most significant contribution I can offer society is to teach biology and chemistry to future generations, demonstrating that science is both fascinating and enjoyable. Being accepted into your program would fulfill a long-held dream. I have a love for the outdoors and enjoy stargazing in my free time.
