I was raised in India and relocated to California just before starting high school. Since moving here, I've found immense pleasure in living in a country with such cutting-edge technology. As a young man committed to my education, I've focused intently on academics with the goal of contributing professionally to science and engineering, specifically in the healthcare sector. My intellectual and academic interests revolve around biomedical technology and engineering, making UXX my top choice for graduate studies due to its stellar reputation in this field. I'm also attracted to UXX because of its high percentage of international students and the unique diversity of its beautiful campus.
My research interests include drug delivery, biomechanics, and tissue engineering. I'm also eager to explore the business side of biomedical engineering, which is why I plan to pursue dual master's degrees: an MBA and a Master's in BME. I aspire to gain extensive professional experience with innovative companies in this field, with the long-term goal of leading one as a CEO. Ultimately, I wish to dedicate my life to developing new, lifesaving biotech drugs, particularly cancer treatments and vaccines, to help extend lives worldwide.
I have a deep appreciation for diversity and multiculturalism, which is one reason I've worked diligently to master Spanish and enjoy engaging with California’s Latino community. Throughout high school, I volunteered extensively at the local senior community center.
Currently, I'm part of the Engineering World Health chapter at UXX, where we provide free labor to assemble and ship goods to developing countries. My team is working on developing an affordable and sustainable oxygen sensor for use in the Global South, aiming to have a prototype ready by spring 2011.
In 2007 and 2008, my father and grandfather's open-heart surgeries adversely affected my grades, but I've since fully recovered. My determination to succeed in biomedical engineering has been bolstered by a deeper understanding of life's value, enabling me to approach problems both emotionally and logically, thereby improving my academic performance to achieve my goals. I also enjoy mentoring four prospective undergraduate students as a committee member of the Biomedical Engineering Society.
I'm passionate about achieving excellence in all my biomedical engineering endeavors. I've also gained considerable business experience and am committed to advancing healthcare systems, especially for the most vulnerable populations. My long-term plans include making significant contributions to healthcare development in India, my homeland, and Tanzania, my mother's birthplace. Both countries suffer from severe wealth distribution disparities, making adequate healthcare for the poor unattainable, and I intend to continue studying these issues, particularly advancements in biomedical technology. I've also traveled to various countries in Europe and Asia, gaining industry exposure through visits to pharmaceutical, biotech, and manufacturing companies with my father, learning about biomedical research and manufacturing operations.
I admired my grandparents, both pharmaceutical entrepreneurs, and have held this profession in high regard from a young age, choosing Biomedical Engineering as my undergraduate focus at UXX. I'm interested in all facets of the field, particularly biomedical signals and electronics technology, such as laser tweezers and EEG caps, bio transport phenomena, and creative thinking. I've completed major projects on phage therapy for cancer and using cancer to develop revascularized tissue scaffolds.
I'm enthusiastic about my work on malignant components, viruses, and cancer cells, and value the internships I've had, especially with Dr. XXXX and Dr. Tang, where I've learned to thrive in two distinct team environments. UXX is my first choice for graduate study because I am deeply inspired by the innovative biotechnology research in your program, and I thank you for considering my application to join your diverse academic community.
