I am applying for the MS Degree in Accountancy at XXXX University because, after extensive research on online programs, I am convinced that your Master’s Program in Accountancy is unmatched globally, offering exceptional depth and breadth in its curriculum. I also appreciate the outstanding quality and functionality of your online platform. With professional experience in various accountancy-related areas, I am well-prepared to thrive in your program. At forty-two, I moved to the United States from Vietnam at seventeen. Since completing college, I have continuously gained professional experience with increasing responsibility across diverse business sectors, which I consider my greatest strength. My main expertise is in accounting, and I excel in all aspects related to bookkeeping.
One notable weakness in my application is my GPA. I request special consideration for this, as the D’s and F’s that affected my GPA were during my first year of college when my English proficiency was limited, having only spent the last two years of high school in America after arriving from Vietnam. I initially struggled, but my grades consistently improved over time.
I firmly believe that I have developed significant acumen throughout my years in the business world and possess great management potential, particularly in managing diversity, harmony, and conflict resolution. I am fully committed to pursuing the most rigorous accountancy education available and assure you that my master's studies will be my top priority. Your program will equip me to become a leader in my organization and a world-class financial communicator with the highest ethical standards.
My roles have included loan processor, real estate appraiser trainee, and premium auditor. I view change positively, seeing it as professional growth, broadening my horizons, and deepening my understanding of accounting through exploration of related areas and practical applications. I sometimes wonder if my Vietnamese heritage, from a primarily fishing society, influences my satisfaction and appreciation for my corporate role at Outdoor Pro Shop, Inc., where we mainly sell fishing tackle. Before my arrival, the company president managed finances manually and was initially reluctant to relinquish control. After gaining his trust, I transitioned from a manual system to fully implementing QuickBooks. I also handle payroll and some tax filings, reducing our expenses.
My boss now has weekends free to focus on projects he is passionate about, allowing more time for business strategy and private label development. Our company is rapidly growing, and I am proud of my contributions to this growth. I have no intention of leaving; I simply wish to continue learning to further enhance our business’s profitability.
Thank you for considering my application to your rigorous and competitive program.
