MS Accountancy Vietnamese Low GPA

I am applying for the MS Degree in Accountancy at XXXX University because, after carefully reviewing online programs, I believe your Master’s Program in Accountancy stands out globally for its unparalleled curriculum depth and breadth. I am also impressed by the exceptional quality and functionality of your online platform. With my extensive experience in various accountancy-related fields, I am confident in my ability to excel in your program. At forty-two, I moved to the United States from Vietnam at seventeen. Since graduating from college, I have consistently gained professional experience with increasing responsibilities across diverse business areas, which I consider my greatest strength. My primary expertise lies in accounting, with my strongest skills in bookkeeping and related areas.

However, my application does have one significant weakness: my GPA. I request special consideration in this regard because the D’s and F’s that affected my GPA occurred during my first year of studies when my English proficiency was still developing, having only arrived in America for the last two years of high school. I initially struggled in college, but my grades improved steadily.

I firmly believe that I have developed significant acumen through my years in various professional business sectors and that I have strong management potential, particularly in managing diversity, harmony, and conflict resolution. I am fully committed to pursuing the most rigorous accountancy education available and assure you that my master’s studies will be my top priority. Your program will equip me to become a leader in my organization and a world-class financial communicator with the highest ethical standards and professionalism.

I have worked as a loan processor, real estate appraiser trainee, and premium auditor. I view change as a positive force, representing professional growth, broadening my horizons, and enhancing my understanding of accounting through exploration of related fields and real-world applications. I have often wondered if my Vietnamese heritage, from a historically fishing-oriented society, influences my fulfillment and appreciation at Outdoor Pro Shop, Inc., where we primarily sell fishing tackle.

Before my arrival, the company president manually managed finances and was initially reluctant to relinquish control, even after hiring an accounting firm. I adhered to his manual system until he trusted me enough to take full control. Once he did, I swiftly transitioned from an outdated manual system to a comprehensive QuickBooks implementation. I also handle payroll and some tax filings, reducing our expenses.

My boss now has weekends free to pursue projects he is passionate about, allowing him more time to plan business strategies and work on private labels. Our company is experiencing rapid growth. I take pride in my significant contributions to our company's expansion and have no intention of leaving. I am eager to continue learning to further enhance our business's profitability.

Thank you for considering my application to your rigorous and competitive program.

The candid acknowledgment of early academic struggles due to language barriers after immigrating from Vietnam adds authenticity. The steady improvement in grades reflects perseverance, adaptability, and determination — qualities that graduate programs value highly.

With roles as a loan processor, real estate appraiser trainee, premium auditor, and accounting lead at Outdoor Pro Shop, the applicant brings a wealth of practical knowledge. Their ability to modernize financial systems, implement QuickBooks, and reduce expenses demonstrates initiative and tangible impact. The statement emphasizes strong management skills, particularly in diversity, harmony, and conflict resolution. This highlights readiness not only for technical mastery but also for leadership roles in complex organizational settings. The applicant assures that graduate studies will be their top priority, reflecting seriousness…
