Indian student of Accounting giving two thumbs up
Indian student of Accounting MAcc Program

When I first became a mentor, I believed I understood the potential impact I could have on someone's life. However, I didn't expect that someone much younger could teach me so much. During my first year at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, I volunteered as a Community Friend and met sixth-grade students from a local government school in India. I was immediately impressed by their kindness, intelligence, and innocence. These children come from families living below the poverty line, and I was eager to help them build self-confidence. Over time, I realized how much they boosted my confidence and passion, significantly influencing my professional journey.

A few months into this experience, as a new academic year began, I was eager to see my students again after the long summer break. However, I was shocked to find the class size had decreased significantly. I learned that many students were from farming families, and it was harvest time, which took away half of their academic year. This made me feel both sad and angry. By dedicating my time to those around me, I've discovered more about who I am and who I aspire to be. This is why I am a mentor and passionate about accounting services, a field that impacts everyone globally. I firmly believe that people living below the poverty line need assistance and education to achieve greater financial literacy, and this is where I aim to make my professional impact.

In my current role with Mastercard, it's been incredibly rewarding to be a key part of the process improvement team, enhancing data reporting efficiency through statistical analysis for our clients. As a team leader, I've been responsible for building and leading teams for large-scale, complex technology projects, requiring a deep understanding of computer systems and databases. I've also enjoyed learning about the entire lifecycle of technology product development, interacting with clients worldwide, and assessing their needs.

My career has evolved from being an engineer/technologist to a professional who understands both technological and business advancements, leading technical teams to deliver excellent project outcomes. Leveraging my leadership experience in the financial services industry, my short-term goal is to transition from Information Technology to Financial Analysis. Although I'm currently working full-time in the IT sector, I aim to advance professionally by studying accounting and finance, thus enhancing my competitiveness in the job market. I am confident that I possess the statistical and quantitative skills necessary to excel in a master's program in Accounting. Ultimately, I hope to lead a financial services department where technology may or may not be the core business, allowing me to successfully apply technology to facilitate business.

Born and raised in India, I am a diligent and studious young Indian woman with a strong background in Information Technology. Having earned my first Master's degree, adjusted to life in the USA, and matured significantly, my professional aspirations have expanded, and I realize that I need a second Master's Degree in Accounting to be competitive for the professional role I desire in the future, as a Corporate Controller for a large IT company. I completed my bachelor's degree in computer science & engineering in India with a perfect GPA of 4.0/4.0, graduating in April 2014. Soon after, I began an MS Program in the USA in Information Science and Technology, which I completed with a GPA of 3.75/4.0, graduating in December 2015. Since then, while working full-time, I have continued taking classes and completed two prerequisite courses for your program as outlined on your website for applicants from non-accounting backgrounds: “Financial Accounting: Foundations” and “Formal Financial Accounting.” The other two courses, “Accounting: Advanced Topics” and “Business Strategy,” are in progress.

My primary long-term goal is to work in the non-profit sector, designing and promoting financial literacy tools and assisting organizations that support marginalized or disadvantaged children, addressing the significant needs in this area. The University of XXXX at XXXX is my top choice for graduate school for several reasons, primarily due to the excellence and solid reputation of UXXX, particularly its Accounting Program. I also value the fact that UXXX offers an online master's in accounting, which is ideal given my current status as a full-time working professional. The XXXX College of Business, with its rich history of accomplishments, ranks among the premier global business schools. This platform will allow me to engage with a diverse student community and learn innovative business practices in preparation for success in a global arena. Additionally, there is the invaluable opportunity to network with alumni and learn from global business leaders through seminars. Therefore, UXXX is my preferred destination for pursuing a master's in accounting.
