Your distinguished master's of science program in Human Resource Management Program through the School of Professional Development at ____ University is my first choice for graduate school and I feel that I am the best fit for your program for several reasons, most of all the sheer excellence of your curriculum and faculty and the fact that I live close by with many valuable connections to local community that will help empower me to excellence in your program. I finished my undergraduate studies at _____ this past May 2015, earning my degree in Multidisciplinary Studies, studying mostly Business Management, Philosophy, and Sociology. Human Resources stole my heart, however, and it is in this area that I want to make my mark in life.

Earning a master's degree has always been my dream, and I am ready to excel in graduate school. Mature for 21 years old, I am full of energy and passion for worthy social causes with heavy doses of optimism that helps to bring about progressive social change.  A fully bilingual Dominican woman born and raised in the Bronx, I also consider myself bicultural since we have returned every two years to the DR and stayed for 4-6 weeks each time.

I want to serve as a role model for my sisters and other young women and girls in the Dominican and Caribbean communities here in New York, leading by example, so that young immigrants learn that with ambition and dedication everything is possible. My parents have always pushed me towards educational advancement and earning my master's degree will be an important triumph for my entire family.

My first introduction to Human Resources was during the first semester of my senior year in college, and I became immediately engaged with the complex roles that human resource departments play in the achievement of organizational success through the promotion and appreciation of diversity. My dream job would be that of Director of Human Resources with a firm that puts a high value on diversity and inclusion.

My long-term dream is to become an independent human resources consultant, helping others to learn how to profit from the celebration of diversity in the workplace and inclusion and equal treatment in the work force—especially for the long term. I put my heart into all the work that I do, and I am thrilled at the prospect of a full-time immersion in the study of what makes HR Departments successful.

I am currently working as an Administrative Assistant at a Charter School in New York and I am an accomplished volunteer: Soup Kitchens, Mid-Night Runs, the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics, food, and toy drives for low-income families at Christmas. I also help at elementary schools in the Dominican Republic every time I go home for family vacation. I always try to get involved in giving back as much as possible. I was a CHILL peer educator for two semesters at the Center for Prevention and Outreach at ____ University, participated in health fairs, depression screenings, and other outreach programs. My second semester I was able to lead, design and present an extraordinarily successful outreach program on the topic of body image.

Finally, I want to give my all to my career in HRM to honor my father who was gravely injured in the workplace two years ago. As I stood watching my father on life support, my blood boiled because he had told me that his workplace was unsafe and his employer negligent. Dad still uses a walker and has limited movements in both arms. For this reason, it will always be a special privilege for me to contribute to the improvement of employee health and safety as well as diversity in the workplace.

Thank you for considering my application.
