I am keenly aware of the highly competitive nature of your esteemed MSc Management of Information Systems and Digital Innovation (MISDI) Program at the University of XX (XXU). Nonetheless, I hold a hope that I believe is justified, mainly due to my academic background in the USA. I also aspire to be accepted based on my innovative ideas for Education in Digital Innovation in China, my home country. My commitment to teaching and digital education makes me a suitable candidate for your program. I have gained familiarity with Western teaching methods through my undergraduate studies at XXXX University. Some of my most notable work has involved examining Chinese culture and literature from a Western perspective. One of my professors in this field is among those writing a letter of recommendation for me.
China is often seen as less advanced and less competitive in MIS compared to other fields. This indicates vast opportunities for future development, which I hope to fully leverage. If admitted to your prestigious program at the XXX, I will dedicate myself entirely to my studies, aiming to graduate with enhanced insight and a diverse skill set that will enable me to secure an ideal position in a consulting firm and eventually transition into an executive role. The education I aspire to receive at XXU is unparalleled globally, aligning with my ambition to become a world citizen with a humanitarian outlook, using science to improve the world, and being a humanitarian businessman as much as possible. For this, I seek the finest education at XXU.
I am deeply committed to dedicating my professional life to aiding the growth of small businesses and non-profits in China through improved MIS. Small businesses account for over 95% of the total and already contribute more than 50% of the GDP; however, I wish to see that second figure rise due to continued, rapid, and most importantly, sustainable growth of our expanding middle class. I am concerned about economic stagnation in China and its potentially devastating effects on the survival of many, as well as its threat to our progress in human rights. With increasing domestic and international competition, some of our remarkable economic engines have begun to falter; thus, many small business owners are recognizing the importance of MIS and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). Resource constraints and unsophisticated management structures have cornered millions of Chinese entrepreneurs. In most cases, ERP is the only viable path forward. It is a matter of survival, and I feel privileged to prepare for a leadership role in this field, given its enormous potential.
Many businesses in China encounter significant challenges when adopting ERP. According to a survey, only 30% of Chinese small businesses have successfully implemented an ERP system.
My father's business, gas stations, serves as a good example; he founded the company in 1996 and has been serving customers tirelessly for nearly 20 years. Although he offered promotions like free car wash services for purchases exceeding thirty liters of gas, the records of such transactions remained paper-based. Collecting customer information was always a challenge, let alone analyzing data for future growth. My father wasn't even aware of this issue until I introduced him to the concept of ERP and data management. Nowadays, millions of small business owners like my father are compelled to make what are often exceedingly difficult changes, relinquishing manual control of outdated business management methods, and entering the realm of computer-based business development to remain competitive, collecting, analyzing, and utilizing data effectively.
Nothing excites me more than assisting a small noodle vendor in managing inventory and ingredient supply through a mobile app. I am determined to apply my knowledge to help these small businesses grow and thrive. Broadly speaking, and this is why XXU is my top choice, I seek to acquire the most rigorous education possible regarding the specific challenges faced by second and third world countries in developing the information systems they need to progress, and I wish to understand these challenges from an interdisciplinary perspective. For this reason, it would be a particular honor to study under Professor XXXX, given my deep admiration for her research on IT and social/organizational change in the Developing World. While I look forward to spending decades as an international corporate executive, establishing my own IT service company has long been a cherished dream.
I chose to major in Information System and Technology Management for my undergraduate studies because it integrated my three main interests and strengths—statistical science, management science, and computer science. I initially struggled in my first year due to culture shock, but I soon recovered, and my initially low grades quickly improved, allowing me to finish with an overall GPA of 3.53 and a core-course GPA of 3.7, making the Dean’s List for two semesters. I am particularly strong in statistics and have learned to use statistical software such as R and SPSS to generate statistical analysis reports. I am currently learning a great deal in a graduate-level class, “Web and Social Analytics,” analyzing real-time data and providing optimizing solutions for companies using Harvard Business Cases, Excel PivotTables, and R. I have also taken a programming course and mastered Python, building an application that allows users to construct portfolios based on real-time stock market performance. I am ready to excel in database management and applications.
I visited XXU during the Spring break of 2013 and fell in love with the school and the city of London. The diligence of the students impressed me, especially when I saw some asleep on the library floor. I thrive on case studies and discussion-based learning approaches. I have learned to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds and excel in teamwork. In my Systems Analysis and Design class, for example, I worked with students from the Middle East, Europe, and America to develop an online system for trading hyper cars; we completed a 25-page proposal that included the development process and system implementation strategy. This is just one example from twelve teamwork-based classes where I have excelled and had the opportunity to develop my leadership skills as a group leader.
Finally, I greatly appreciate XXU’s extensive connections with international business and governmental organizations. The city of London itself is a valuable resource for studying the intersection of human organization and digital innovation.
Thank you for considering my application.
Empowering Small Businesses in China MIS and Digital Innovation

This statement is remarkably strong, heartfelt, and intellectually ambitious. What stands out immediately is the writer’s clarity of purpose: they are not simply applying to a program, but articulating a long‑term mission grounded in both personal experience and a deep understanding of China’s evolving digital landscape. The narrative conveys a genuine commitment to using MIS and digital innovation as tools for social and economic progress, especially for small businesses and underserved communities. That sense of purpose gives the entire statement a compelling moral and practical weight.
The applicant’s global perspective is another major strength. Their academic training in the United States, combined with their cultural grounding in China, positions them as someone who can bridge educational philosophies, business practices, and…
