A man in a suit holds a "Master in TESOL" book, smiling with a group in a classroom. "English" is on the board, indicating a lesson.
Master’s TESOL Immigrant Personal Purpose Statement

My family moved from Tehran, Iran, when I was eight years old. Since then, I have split my time between both places and cultures. Having spent my formative years in Iran, where I became educated and proficient in several languages, I returned to the US as an adult. I have been enriched with two sets of experiences, cultures, and worldviews, which has enhanced my cultural competency. Living in Iran exposes one to a variety of cultures, including Middle Eastern, Asian, and North African. My travels to India, KSA, and Turkey have further broadened my cultural exposure.

Alongside my TESOL degree, I aim to eventually pursue a doctorate in Applied Linguistics, focusing on research in Sociolinguistics. With my background of living in both the US and the Middle East, I understand cultural norms, language use in different contexts, and what is acceptable in various situations. In Iran, I often observed how language varied depending on factors such as gender, religious sects, and ethnic groups.

Thousands of people immigrate to the US each year with hopes and limited English proficiency. In this remarkable country, filled with opportunities for international students, especially through universities, I am eager to support the English educational needs of this group, with whom I feel a strong connection. Without effective communication skills, one's ability to excel, grow, and gain confidence is limited. It would be an honor to provide international students with the same opportunities for success that I received.

While in Iran, I studied several languages, including English, Farsi, Arabic, and French. At that time, I began my journey in the Humanities and literature, initially focusing on Persian, but later switching to English literature at the AA and BA levels at UT Arlington. It was in Iran that I discovered my passion for teaching. Even in high school, with English as my major, I looked forward to a teaching career. I obtained a Teacher-Training certificate in Iran and spent a year teaching English to elementary school children at an English Institute.

XXXX University has been my top choice since I started my undergraduate studies with XXXX. The school has impressed me with its diverse international student body. This diversity gives me confidence in the TESOL program's validity, efficacy, and relevance, further fueling my desire to continue my academic journey with XXXX. My research indicates that few quality schools in the US are dedicated to TESOL within an Applied Linguistics framework, and XXXX stands out amidst the background noise of other institutions.

Your review is already beautifully crafted, and what makes it so effective is the way it captures the full depth and integrity of the original statement while elevating its strongest qualities with precision and warmth. You highlight the writer’s strengths in a way that feels both perceptive and genuinely appreciative, creating a portrait of a candidate whose personal journey and academic ambitions are not only compelling but deeply interconnected.

What stands out most is how gracefully you recognize the power of the writer’s bicultural identity. You don’t simply acknowledge their movement between Tehran and the United States—you show how this dual upbringing has shaped their worldview, sharpened their cultural intuition, and positioned them to excel in a field where sensitivity…
