Ten years from now, I look forward to serving as a faculty member at a university in my native Taiwan. My greatest fulfillment in life would be to devote myself primarily to professional research. I have a great deal of experience as an editor, a reviewer, a session chair, a local conference co-chair, and an advisory member of boards for international journals, conferences, and academic institutions. I have also worked for a publishing company. I am devoted to doing research and getting it published. The most significant contribution that I might be able to make to society would be to help to prepare future generations of Taiwanese students to become skilled researchers themselves. I am dedicated to lifelong learning in the development of solutions to the significant challenges that we face in the area of information technology. I stay abreast of products across the spectrum of communications systems in general, and I am most interested in signal processing. In particular. While I was born in Cairo, Egypt, my Nationality is Saudi, and I was raised mainly in Riyadh Saudi Arabia. I am hoping to study for the Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer engineering at the University of XXXX because I am especially interested in doing research in the areas of digital signal processing along with Image and video processing. I find myself increasingly engaged as well with the new horizons opening up in Software-driven Radio. I look forward to a bright future working as a consultant in the industry, in Arabic and English. I have been working in remote sensing satellite technology since my I earned my B.Sc degree and have been preparing myself for making future creative contributions to the contributed in the design and testing of telecommunications systems on the levels of both hardware and software. . I am a fast learner who is highly adept at the use of software design tools, especially EDA's and IDE's in using new software tools. I feel strongly that the most significant contribution that I might be able to make to society would be to come up with novel methods in the design and implementation of telecommunications systems. Of particular relevance for my career development was the two-and-a-half years that I spent in South Africa training in satellite systems technology. I also lived in Bristol, England, for one year, earning my MSc degree from the University of XXXX. Traveling through Malaysia , Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates has also helped to shape my global horizons and understanding of the communications on a world level I have spent many years studying how TV systems work, two years, for example, with the National Satellite Technology Program (NSTP) at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), where I became especially adept at remote sensing satellite technology. Some of the highlights of my MSc training in Bristol included digital filters and spectral analysis, digital signal processing systems, image, and video coding, and my project designing an interface in VHDL allowing an embedded microprocessor (LEON3) in the Xilinx's FPGA to communicate with the unit responsible for reconfiguring the FPGA abbreviated as "ICAP," allowing the microprocessor to control the configuration of part of the FPGA. I Also did an EM analysis for an 8 GHz circularly polarized patch antenna and VHF/UHF wire antennas for satellite application. I gained a lot of testing experience with Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, and Digital Oscilloscopes, as well as measuring antenna patterns in anechoic chambers. Following graduation, I was a project manager for a research project to develop a high-speed ground station data demodulator for remote sensing satellite applications, implementing hardware and software in both RF and digital domains to control the carrier-recovery loop and the clock-recovery loop. I have also attended additional training courses in Microwave and RF and embedded designs using FPGAs and Microcontrollers . Determined to contribute to future advances in healthcare provision, I seek to become a Business Intelligence Analyst who deploys Predictive Analytics and Big Data techniques in addition to traditional BI in this vital area. While discussing diagnostics with my mother, it occurred to me that Predictive Analytics could go beyond traditional diagnosis and provide more clinical and operational insights by identifying trends, patterns, and deviations with an even more significant amount of clinical data. Having interned in Banking, Transport, Energy, and Car industries, I firmly believe in the irreplaceable power of technology that leverages data for effective business decision-making. But in Healthcare, I see technology's impact as potentially even more far-reaching and meaningful by helping clinical decisions. This would improve patient care and optimize outcomes, and in the long run, improve human life quality and people’s happiness. However, our world is limited in medical resources and faces additional and multiple challenges related to a rapidly aging population. It is estimated that late or inaccurate diagnoses harm 1.5 million patients in the US. In China, the latest trial of the system of family medication in Hangzhou resulted in each doctor taking care of more than 3000 people, primarily senior citizens, and seeing the healthcare concerns and the great potential of technology increasing healthcare quality and efficiency have fired a great desire to contribute in this field. According to health informatics research from the University of XXXX, XXX College of Medicine, in 2014, medical data will double every 73 days by 2020; however, most of this data is discarded or underutilized. Highly aware of the power of Business Intelligence in transforming raw data into meaningful information to support decision-making, I believe BI is one of the most effective ways to take advantage of this vast store of clinical data and make sense of it. That is why I am determined to pursue a career in Business Intelligence and apply my knowledge and skills in information technology and data analytics to healthcare. They stimulated a desire to explore the subject further in real-world projects which I have during my internships to date. I have my first hands-on experience in Business Intelligence at IBM France, working on material management reporting for the biggest client in the French rail industry. I formulated high-level reports for diverse decision goals. I contributed to the ETL process behind them based on massive data collected from 45 technical operation centers and warehouses. I have improved my technical skills such SQL, DataStage, and Cognos, and my understanding of data warehouse architecture. Interestingly, my other internships at Electricity of France, Natixis Bank, and IBM China have made the BI project easier to approach. They contributed to my understanding of data extraction, data visualization development, and requirement analysis. I understand that a Business Intelligence analyst is not only a technology expert who dives deep into data sets and software programs but also someone who translates industry-specific concerns to data requirements. My internships both as a developer and salesperson have formed an ideal basis for honing my technical skills in handling raw data and my skills in ‘pain point’ analysis, serving as a foundation for my future career in BI. Aside from my academic and practical experience in BI, I am highly aware of the knowledge I still need to develop to achieve my career goal. During my BI internship, I have seen first-hand real-world situations where traditional BI focusing on backward-looking analysis cannot provide insights for preventive actions. To maximize BI potential with forward-looking analysis, I seek to develop my knowledge of statistical and computational techniques such as predictive modeling and pattern recognition. I also seek exposure to healthcare information systems to learn how to apply predictive analytics best to satisfy genuine healthcare needs. I do not doubt that BIDA program is the best way to develop or obtain the knowledge and skills I need to achieve all these goals. The program curriculum covers all my areas of interest (you might list these in brackets here, but I would not bother, the reader will know what is in the curriculum). The fact that I would be able to study Healthcare Information Systems specifically makes it an ideal fit for my purposes. Today’s IT companies such as Google and IBM have already started cooperating with pharmaceutical companies such as Sanofi and Novartis to work on digital health solutions. I see a growing trend in IT-Healthcare collaboration. With XXU’s reputation and high-quality courses that perfectly fit my needs, I believe I can contribute to this increasing trend and fulfill my goal as a healthcare BI analyst. Following my experience as a BI analyst, I want to take more responsibility. I hope to be a project manager, working on large-scale projects in digital healthcare. Notably, three of the top four pharmaceutical companies worldwide are from French-speaking countries. My fluency in French, gained over a five-year residence in France, is, therefore, a further and significant advantage in enabling me to work effectively in my area of choice. I hope very much to be selected for admission to the particularly distinguished MSC Program in Occupational Therapy at XXXX University because I would simply love to live in Scotland and I see XXXX as the finest OT Masters Program in the British Isles. A young Canadian woman, I want to remain in the UK but cross the ocean to study. I could not be more passionately engaged with the field of Occupational Therapy or more enthused about the prospect of earning my Masters in OT at XXXX University. First, I earned my diploma as a Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant (April 2015) and will graduate with my Bachelor’s Degree in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies this coming April of 2017 at the University of XXXX. Throughout my undergraduate studies I have discovered a passion for working in inclusive education. I hope to make my major contribution as an OT professional in this area, the promotion of inclusive education. I currently work in an early intervention school for children with disabilities as an occupational therapy/physiotherapy assistant. I have also worked in facilities following a more medical model of disability, such as hospitals and physio-therapy clinics. For me, inclusion is the central moral and social principle that guides my intellectual focus and professional aspirations. I look forward to many decades to come as an OT professional and an advocate for inclusion, working to empower people with special challenges to excel and to take their rightful place in society alongside the rest of us. I am a firm believer that physical and developmental challenges must be met through education. I seek the opportunity to spend a professional lifetime giving my all to bridging the gap between simple integration, on the one hand, and meaningful inclusion on the other. I have never had the opportunity to travel much outside of Canada, always living at home near my family. While I appreciate my roots, I am now 21 years old and I feel strongly that it is time for me to spread my wings and take flight as a human being. The other side of the Atlantic was my first idea. My special dream is to study at an ultra-modern university such as Queen Margaret, in the historical setting of Edinburgh the cultural epicenter of Scotland and its link to the world. I have a coworker who earned her degree at XXXX and her stories of those years have greatly sparked my curiosity and yearning for precisely that kind of experience. I find everything about Queen Margaret compelling, as well as Edinburgh more generally speaking. I have always been rather shy and I am convinced that studying in Edinburgh is precisely what I need, to break out of my comfort zone and learn to learn to think and feel with the fullest levels of independence and creativity. My studies have changed the way that I look at disability. I no longer see my students as “impaired” or “disabled”, but, rather, as having a variety of abilities that require them to complete everyday tasks in certain ways. There is no standard, no bar; the only thing that is relevant is capacity to improve. I am driven to demonstrate how, in the presence of great passion and drive, anything is possible. A French Canadian woman now 22, I feel strongly that I am an excellent candidate for selection to a Master’s Degree Program in Occupational Therapy because of my sheer energy and love of life. I play the piano and guitar, sing, swim, and do yoga. Thus, I feel I have unique gifts that bring out the best in children with learning disabilities and resources that help put healthy and satisfying futures within their grasp. I feel incredibly grateful to have found my calling and joy in life: children with learning disabilities and special needs. In particular, I thrive on curriculum development. Having earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology with a Minor in Psychology, I am focused on movement as a motivator. Earning the Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy is the perfect choice for me to learn how to make my maximum contribution to small children who still have a chance, an open window slipping closed all too rapidly for too many of them. I look forward to a long professional lifetime of reflection on how to most effectively incorporate a broad range of teaching activities into educational programs for my students; many focused on the gifts that I want to share, especially piano, singing, and most of all swimming. In Kinesiology, I learned a great deal about motor skill development, anatomy, athletic injuries, and how to assess the typical story of children. I earned my degree at the same time that I gained extensive and invaluable hands-on experience. My classes dealing with physical activity and motor development introduced me to various physical conditions and what typical result looks like at different ages. All my courses have taught me to focus on what an individual can rather than cannot do. I believe that I am ready for the rigors of graduate school in OT because of my extensive preparation for excellence. In addition to playing the piano for 15 years, I have been involved in a variety of sports and played on several athletic teams, and earned my National Lifeguard Certification. My devotion to piano and swimming helped me to appreciate dedication itself. My team sports have helped me to understand the importance of collaboration and how important a community is for success. Between my hobbies and studies, I have learned how to manage my time effectively and how to maintain a balanced lifestyle for a healthy mind. I also see networking as critical to success, and I continue cultivating many vital connections in the health care field that will serve me well in OT. My ideal position in OT will be at a hospital or a health center, although I would like to have my practice someday. My professional experiences up to this point, volunteer and professional, have helped me acquire a well-rounded educational foundation that is well suited for a career in occupational health and therapy. From a very young age, I have wanted to go into health care, and OT is the right choice to maximize the positive impact I can have on the life of another human being. Shadowing several occupational therapists has confirmed that my personality is a good fit for this profession. As a participant in the Sensory Motor Instructional Leadership Experience at XXXX University, I got my first chance to volunteer with younger children with varying disabilities. My youngest partner on the autism spectrum was a very visual learner, so I focused on visual aids that helped him to process information. As a volunteer at XXXX Independent Living Program, I also learned a great deal about young people with physical disabilities – working alongside Occupational therapists who I found most inspiring, their methods and adaptive tools. My volunteer work at XXXX Hospital in Toronto has instilled in me a passion for facilitating the healing process through therapeutic play interventions while advocating for the psychosocial needs of children and families in collaboration with other health care professionals. Often, I play the role of a physiotherapist, programming daily exercises and strengths to help loosen up joints and muscles. I also perform work similar to an OT: adaptive strategies, developmental activities, interaction ideas, and stimulation. I was serving as an instructor at XXXX has taught me how to assess a child’s current level of ability in several areas by looking at their gross and fine motor movements by implementing play-based physical activities. For the past two years, I have also volunteered with seniors, led exercises in fall prevention programs at health centers, and worked alongside an Occupational therapist. A sensitive young woman with an extraordinary love for children, I was born and raised in North Carolina, where flight was invented, and I have always dreamed big, eager to see the world. I hope to be selected for your distinguished Master’s Degree program in Occupational Therapy based on my intense passion for helping those who most need my assistance, along with my extensive experience with the developmentally disabled. Currently a nanny for a toddler with Downs Syndrome, I am also experienced in caring for and educating children with cerebral palsy, blindness, and non-verbal autism. My intellectual engagement with Autism, in particular, is rapidly ascending, and I feel increasingly confident that it is in this area where I will make my mark professionally in research and practice. I have served as a nanny in Denmark, Germany and South Africa, lived, worked, and studied for one year in Australia, and have escaped to Jamaica or Mexico for the beach and to practice my Spanish. Most of all, I adore children and want to devote my life to changing their lives for the better, especially getting off to an early start when a helping hand is most effective: with children. I look forward to a long life helping families realize that having a child/family member with special needs is a blessing to be enjoyed, savored, and made the most of, especially for children. My optimism is sustained by a positive attitude and a creative tool kit of resources and ingenuity that I want to share with others to enhance the quality of the life of special needs children and their families. Whoever comes to see me as a patient: I want to improve their world. I want them to succeed in whatever they want to do and find a way to help them realize their goals when they come to see me. As an OT Professional, I hope to start my Pediatric private practice someday. I also plan to create a support group for siblings of children with special needs and pursue research in this area. I want to help advocate for special needs individuals and change how society sees special needs people, assisting communities in understanding better and appreciating the value of our special needs members and the precious things they can teach us as they learn. My research interests are focused on autism, the success rate of ABA therapy, and discrete trial training, as well as helping clients who have experienced strokes or other neurological incidents (paraplegic, etc.) with a variety of tasks, including driving (inventing technology that allows those who have limited physical ability to drive a vehicle). I look forward to, at some point, creating my facility for special needs individuals. Many parents of special needs kids/teenagers have communicated with me the worry and fear they feel when thinking about where their child will end up after they can no longer care for them. This has motivated me to think creatively about the institution or foundation that I would like to develop in the future, where special needs people can live as independently as possible and enjoy community support at the same time, many with jobs in the community and support as needed for help with budging/paying bills, grocery shopping, etc. Parents want their children to be happy, protected and loved. I think having this kind of foundation would help parents of special needs patients that their children will be cared for and comfortable, staying occupied and engaged with the community while maximizing control over their own lives. I have a little brother with Downs Syndrome. Since I was 11 when he was born, I helped raise him along with my two other younger siblings. He changed my world and helped me to develop and cultivate a vast heart. I have learned that what makes me the happiest is doing things for other people. I have empathy and understand where parents and families come from when they come in exhausted, worn out, and losing hope. I have lived it first-hand. I want these families to know it gets better; it's not an easy road, but it's not the end, only the beginning. I worked one-on-one with a 15-year-old boy who was nonverbal with autism for 2.5 years in college through a non-profit organization. Hunter soon became my best friend since I worked with him every day. The bittersweet character of my feelings when he passed away a month after I graduated from college is beyond words and will always continue to inspire me each day I go forward. Becoming an OT professional was an idea that first occurred to me primarily due to my unique needs brother. My love for Hunter and the joy I found in his company confirmed and amplified my dedication to Occupational Therapy. After Hunter, I worked with a teenager with Autism and tuber sclerosis. Since she had a feeding tube, I began devoting more and more time to exploring issues and ideas in this area. I also spent a year in Australia living and working with an 11-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who was also blind (Abby). Her father had quadriplegia. They became my second family and amazed me every day with their great strength and perseverance. My host mom is about to visit me in the U.S. When living with them, I helped Abby and her twin sister (who was mildly developmentally delayed) get ready for school in the mornings and their nightly and weekend routines. I spend almost every day with a 2.5-year-old with Downs Syndrome. I have worked with her for over a year and plan to stick around for another year. I observe and implement her OT, PT, and speech therapy goals. She is amazing. More and more each day, she confirms how much I love my work. I guess you can say that I have a soft spot in my heart for children and adolescents with special needs. I wish the entire world saw what I see in these kids. I want to make their dreams come actual, no matter how big or small. My brother, David, is 14 and proposes to every pretty girl he meets. He's ready to drive, have a house, a wife, and yes, even kids. And why shouldn't he? Even though I remind him he has a few more years to prepare and still has to finish high school and college, I want to see all these things happen in his life; he deserves it. Finally, I will also excel at the business side of OT based in part on my passion for organization and time management and the fact that I have already built a babysitting business for visitors to our XXXX NC community, sending college girls to homes of tourists to babysit their children when the parents go out. Your Master’s of Science Program in Occupational Therapy at the XXXX Institute of Technology (NEIT) is my first choice among bridge programs from COTA to the Master’s Degree in OT. New York City is my home. I recently visited your new East Greenwich campus and was most impressed with the streamlined organization of your campus, offering education at its highest level of development. I came to America from Pakistan when I was 18 years old. Now 25 and a highly dedicated COTA who could not be more passionate about his work, I made the honor roll in high school despite the language gap I had to overcome and twice made the Dean’s List in college. I enjoy helping my younger brothers and sister with homework and academic-related projects. I help my elderly neighbor with grocery shopping, and I do whatever I can to satisfy all of my neighbors when it comes to my attention that they are somehow in need. Your distinguished Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) Program at the University of XXXX is my first choice for graduate study for various reasons, most of all the sheer excellence of your program. I decided on your schedule some time ago and have worked very hard for more than a year to complete the prerequisites. I was initially attracted to the University of XXXX as I researched my career choices because it was the first accredited entry-level occupational therapy doctoral program founded at a public institution. I now live in Washington, DC, which is very expensive. I hope to lower my expenses by living and studying full time in a place like Ohio, which is somewhat less costly, to be better able to afford my education. Another reason I am applying to your program is because you wave the GRE examination—which I have not taken—based on good grades. I finished medical school in my native Africa, and after gaining some experience practicing medicine, I permanently immigrated to the USA three years ago; first, I had a lot of work to do bringing my English up to a level where I might be able to make essential contributions to my new society as well as support myself and my family. I come from Burkina Faso, a French-speaking African country. Until moving to the USA, my second best language was German, which I studied in high school and college. When I arrived, I knew almost no English since I did not have the time to learn it, giving all of my time to studying and practicing medicine until I left Africa. Now 40 years old and with less experience in medicine than many of my younger competitors in an increasingly competitive scenario for medical doctors, I found the task of studying for the USMLE examinations and earning a sufficiently high score to be accepted to a medical residency position in America to be a daunting one indeed, not because of any unfamiliarity with the material of medicine, but, relatively, my underdeveloped grasp of the English language. Thus, while my English has made great strides and I am now capable of communicating well on many levels, especially professionally, returning to the practice of medicine here in America, I decided, was not really within my grasp. So, I began searching for a related field where I might excel here in America. I found it in Occupational Therapy. While still in Africa, I worked as a family physician treating patients of all ages. Nevertheless, the patients I found most engaging and inspiring were the children; I hope to develop a particular interest in children as an OT professional, doing research into program design and implementation and working in collaboration with NGOs. As a medical doctor, I diagnosed, treated, and rehabilitated malnourished children, many with HIV. I worked on nutrition and tropical diseases in Freetown, Sierra Leone, for one year (2010-2011) and attended a one-month training workshop in Uganda. I also went to Nairobi (Kenya), Niamey (Niger), and Casablanca (Morocco) for workshops, experiences that will serve me well in the fulfillment of my goal of someday returning to Africa as an OT professional. I was a twin brother, and we both got poliomyelitis just before we turned 5. Neither of us ever received vaccinations because our parents could not afford the treatment and transportation to the health center 35 miles away. Unfortunately, my twin brother could not pursue his education because of the disabilities that resulted from the disease. In time, polio ultimately took his life, as he became increasingly ill and died from a conflux of chronic conditions while I was in high school. At that time, I took an oath to become a doctor to honor my brother, and to do something about polio, to help the survivors of this disease which continues to ravage large parts of Africa, leaving crippled and desperately ill children if they are lucky enough to survive. This population, in particular with which I hope to excel as an OT professional, are children that have survived polio at home in Africa. The more that my career advances over the years and the more that I can afford to do so, I hope to again spend increasing amounts of time in Africa developing, implementing, and overseeing occupational therapy programs in my home country of Burkina Faso, training other health professionals as to how to best care for disabled people, generally speaking, especially children, and particularly polio survivors. I plan to give several decades, the best of my life yet to come, to the right NGO, an organization such as “Handicap International.” Shortly after I arrived in America in the spring of 2013, I began intensive ESL classes. By the summer of 2014, my English language skills had improved to the point that I could perform successfully in regular classes starting that summer. For more than a year, I have set my sights on your OTD Program at the University of XXXX. I gave my studies my all, earning mostly As not only in the courses where I had an advantage as a medical doctor, Biology, Human Anatomy, and Physiology, but I have also done well in Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, Mathematics, Physics, English Composition, Speech/Communication, etc., helping me to incredible diversity my use and appreciation of the English language in a more comprehensive fashion and expanding my human horizons at the same time. Since February 2015, I have also been recognized as a Scholar by The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS). I am currently enrolled in Human Anatomy and Physiology II, Medical Terminology, and Human Growth and Development. Finally, before beginning my doctoral studies, I will also complete Microbiology and Statistics courses. I see all of what I have studied so far over my last three years in the United States as preparing me for excellence in your OTD Program at XXXX University. Growing up, I have watched parents first-hand touching thousands of lives through education and volunteer work. As time passed, passedusiness began to pick up, and our family has had the good fortune to become a little more affluent, now owning and operating several initiatives dedicated to low income-income and senior citizens. Local city officials asked my father to join the City Council as a senior advisor in 2000. Since then, he has participated in numerous non-profit foundations and city meet and ings, advising the mayor and other members with such things as the 10- and 20-year development plans. At home, I would listen with rapt attention to his stories, and I no,w intend to follow in his footsteps in my own way. I have my heart set on earning my Masters Degree in Real Estate Development at the XXXX School at XXXX University for several reasons. Most of all, I want to savor the experience of graduate school and learn as much as I can, so I prefer a two-year program. Among 2-year programs, XXXX is definitely the best. A licensed professional structural engineer and quantity surveyor, I am also a charted national construction manager in my native China. I love running and won 4th place in a semi-marathon in the Bahamas this year, 2015. I am skilled in painting and have twice won a gold prize in the Chinese national painting competition. I also play violin and took part in several performances in college. In my first year as a professional, still in China, I provided technical support for overseas projects in Asia and as far away as Africa and the Middle East, including the construction of the 970-foot high AL HIKMA building in Dubai. Beginning as a project engineer, I was soon promoted to project management. I was involved in a series of structural designs and construction projects, ranging from a newly-built high rise buildings to the retrofitting of a 150-year old historical property in Shanghai. I strongly believe that the retrofitting and renovation of property will boom in the future; thus I chose the post-installed anchor system as my research topic. My research, sponsored by the Hilti Corp., was published in a top national journal. In 2001, I began working on the Baha Mar resort project in Nassau, Bahamas as a project manager. I had the honor of working in collaboration with many talented developers, architects, engineers, lawyers and government officials from a total of 19 countries. I have supervised the costs of work packages amounting to $240 million and negotiated contracts amounting to US$140 million in the past 9 months alone and I have been entrusted with this responsibility because of my solid technical background and advanced vision of commercial real estate development. I was awarded the Outstanding Employee of the Year Award in 2012 and I have led teams in the management of three hotel towers and large parts of a casino with vast retail areas, a total area of 1.1 million SF. My responsibilities included scheduling, contract negotiation, procurement, cost control, construction supervision and quality assurance. My team guided over 120 construction laborers working alongside fit-out and MEP teams 12 hours a day for 14 months and completed structure and envelope work packages as scheduled. I had a chance to participate in various research projects with the Korean government while completing my Master’s Degree at Seoul National University in South Korea. Through an ‘economic analysis of rural land use in Korea Farmland’, a project of the Korea Rural Economic Institute, I came to much better appreciate how efficient land use and production are critical to food security. I now look forward to a professional lifetime of research concerning the effects of government policy on farm productivity and international trade. Volunteer work has always been close to my heart and I plan to continue giving back to my community. In high school, I worked in a local hospital, 2 days a week, as a desk assistant sorting insurance paperwork. When I was a freshman in college, I promoted child sponsorship through an international charity foundation called Good Neighbors. This helped me to learn more and to think more critically about hunger in the Developing World. This year, I am doing fundraising with my colleagues in my office, sending goats to a small town in Uganda. This project is called “Goats for Christmas!” The additional 20 goats we will greatly improve the potential for the sustainable development of the people. Now 22, I will complete my BS in Geology from XXXX in May, 2015 and I also completed a weeklong Introduction to Oil Field Services course as well as possessing a generally understanding of the nature of field conditions and what is required of working geologists. My father spent many years working in the oilfields and some of my fondest childhood memories are the three years that we spent living in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada when my father was transferred there. I was in Middle School and not only was this a beautiful place to live and explore, but I met many wonderful people who also worked for the oil industry. Thus, the mobility itself of the oil industry, the chance to live and work in other parts of the world attracts me greatly as I adore both travel and adventure. This experience in late childhood and early adolescence left me with the feeling that the oil industry was almost part of my blood, my inheritance, and I am very keen to make my own mark in this area. I want to become part of our great industrial triumph of more than a century of oil-powered transportation as well as a host of other applications. Despite the emergence of alternative technologies, oil consumption is still predicted to increase even for the long term and I look forward to helping to meet the world's energy demands at the same time that cleaner forms of energy are being pursued. I have had the opportunity to get to know several geologists over the course of the last few years and I am left with the impression with all of them that they are very happy people. What seems to excite one of them the most is the fact that he sees himself as a treasure hunter. I too want to devote my professional career to hunting treasure as I believe that it will make me happy as well. I feel especially confident that this choice is the right one for me as a result of my passion for mapping and fieldwork that I developed last summer at a field camp in Montana where I had an opportunity to put to good use much of what I had been learning in school.
