I hold a bachelor degree in English Language from Taibah University in Saudi Arabia. I obtained a GPA score of 4.64 out of 5 and an ‘excellent second honor’ degree.  I have been awarded a joint scholarship by my government to pursue a higher degree and am extremely keen to do so. My goal is to become one of the best teachers of English in my home country, to undertake useful research and, ultimately, to pursue a Ph.D. and provide the very best training to those intending to pursue a career in this field of work.

I have no idea where my interest in teaching and the English Language originated but my earliest memories are of ‘teaching’ a class of toys and delighting in writing the names of my family members and simple words in English. I have never wavered in my determination to pursue studies and a career involving the teaching of English and am delighted that my childhood dreams appear likely to be fulfilled.

I have several months teaching experience which involved assisting a teacher of English working with students aged 16-19. I thoroughly enjoyed this exposure, which was all that I had hoped it would be. I was assured by students and teachers that I made a significant contribution to the students’ progress and felt a great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment at the end of each day.

 In my opinion, variety is an important key to successful language teaching. I found this very helpful personally and observed that students enjoyed this way of learning. Saudi teaching tends to be conservative and formal text book based teaching together with language laboratory work is still the favored approach. Our students were encouraged to supplement formal studies with such activities as the reading of newspapers and magazines, listening to radio, game playing and studying song lyrics. I also observed that showing an interesting English language film and then discussing the plot was very effective and maximized student participation and interest. We also required students to make presentations in English occasionally about something that they had read, watched or listened to. This was both enjoyable and also created some very effective mutual learning experiences for students.

I have carefully researched available programs and have concluded that I would be the best fit with your program at XXXX University, in order to gain the knowledge and skills that will enable me to be a highly effective teacher of English. I am especially attracted by the fact that the program provides an excellent grounding in both traditional methods and those involving the very latest technology and multimedia. I recognize that every student is different and that the favored method of a teacher may not be the most effective learning route for every student, thus the more methods a teacher is familiar with, the more effective he/she can become. I was also very impressed by the comments made by current students and their positive experiences of the program. I also note that research opportunities are available and hope to be able to assist in that related to the comparative effectiveness of methods.

I believe that I am an excellent candidate for the program. I am both well qualified and have English teaching experience, however my main recommendation is a genuine passion for the subject of the program and a determination to participate with great enthusiasm, to excel within it, assist in useful research and then to share the fruits of my work with the many students I hope to teach in my future career.
