During my master's studies in chemistry at Lamar University, I found great satisfaction in my position as a Teaching Assistant in the Chemistry Department at ____ University. I am now eager to return to academia to pursue a PhD in Chemistry, fully content with my career path and committed to dedicating my life to Analytical and Organic Chemistry. My role as a laboratory assistant at Lamar University, where I managed lab chemicals and maintained instruments in compliance with safety standards, was incredibly valuable.
The University of XXXX at XXXX is my preferred choice for a PhD Program in Chemistry for both personal and professional reasons. I am particularly impressed by your state-of-the-art research facilities and modern instrumentation lab. I share a strong interest in many of the faculty's research areas, and I am especially eager to study under Dr. Franco Basile, whose work in analytical chemistry, focusing on environmental and biological sample analysis, I greatly admire. The welcoming campus community of the University of ____, set in a beautiful mountain landscape, also appeals to me.
Since childhood, I've been captivated by chemical reactions, experimenting in my own little lab and viewing life itself as akin to organic chemistry, essential to our existence. Encouraged by my elder brother to study diligently and pursue a scientific career, I often pondered the science behind everyday phenomena, such as why an eraser removes pencil marks but not ink. I completed my BSc in Chemistry from the University of Dhaka in 2012 and will finish my MS Degree with a thesis in spring 2017. My advanced courses in Chemistry—organic, inorganic, analytical, physical—and instrumental analysis have been particularly enjoyable. I've also engaged in volunteer work both in the USA and in Bangladesh, teaching at the American Center at the US Embassy in Dhaka with Education USA.
As an undergraduate, I developed a keen interest in spectrochemical analysis, and during my master's studies, I conducted extensive research using LC/MS/MS, TGA, and XRD instrumentation, publishing my first paper on TMS. Participating in poster competitions at ____ University has been a great honor, allowing me to connect with like-minded individuals and exchange insights on advancements in our field. I delivered an oral PowerPoint presentation on my research and published proceedings on TMS titled: “Thin films and coating for absorptive removal of antimicrobials, antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals” (2016). Another poster presentation focused on my research on “Experimental and quantum chemical study on the removal of emerging water pollutants Triclosan by clay particles.” Additionally, I presented on STEM at a conference held at ____ University.
I aspire to dedicate my life to research in analytical chemistry—organic and physical. I am committed to making significant contributions to the development of affordable medicine, particularly for the people of Bangladesh, where many cannot afford essential medications. Although my focus is analytical, I remain mindful of chemistry's global potential to save lives and enhance health, especially in the Developing World and among impoverished communities, like those in Bangladesh.
I am excited about the prospect of engaging with the academic and international chemistry community, collaborating, and exchanging ideas with peers worldwide, alongside the esteemed faculty at the University of ____. It would be a privilege to continue as a Teaching Assistant or support research and laboratory activities, contributing to the faculty, department, and the University of ____.
Upon completing my PhD, I envision myself in a multi-research firm, dedicating decades to innovative research. I aim to build a distinguished career in both teaching and research, fostering a deep appreciation for discovery and exploring new possibilities to make the world a better place for everyone.
Thank you for considering my application to the University of ____.
