Growing up in a family where engineering, design, and architecture were common, I was always surrounded by the creative and technical elements of these areas. As a teenager, I was drawn to these disciplines, inspired by the passion and expertise of my family. I delved into books, articles, and resources on art and architecture, eager to learn everything I could about the principles and practices that shaped these industries.

My commitment to self-study paid off when, at eighteen, I obtained the academic qualifications needed to pursue my dream of studying at the prestigious Tehran College of Art and Architecture. The journey to this point was filled with challenges and moments of self-discovery as I honed my skills and expanded my knowledge in preparation for higher education.

Entering college marked a significant milestone in my academic and professional growth. The structured curriculum, guidance from experienced faculty, and exposure to diverse perspectives further fueled my passion for art and architecture. I embraced every opportunity to engage with unique styles, techniques, and theories, broadening my understanding of the creative process and its impact on society.

Reflecting on my journey from a curious teenager to a dedicated student of art and architecture, I am grateful for the formative influences that shaped my path. The support of my family, the wealth of knowledge I gained through independent study, and the transformative experiences in college have all contributed to my growth as a future professional in these dynamic and inspiring fields.

I wanted to study Interior Design, but no such program existed in Iran, so I pursued the closest alternative, Industrial Design. I received my degree in May 2007. I was aware of the prestigious reputation of Virginia Tech in my areas of interest and wanted to apply for entry once I completed my studies in Iran. My father is a VT graduate and was the first person to earn a Ph.D. in Earthquake Engineering. I wanted to experience the academic environment that my father cherished. Unfortunately, my family couldn't afford to fund this ambition until 2009, when I finally began my studies in Virginia and entered the Interior Design program.

I enjoyed studying Interior Design, but my professor encouraged me to switch my major to architecture because she noticed my work leaned towards large-scale concepts and vision. I thank her every day for guiding me in what I now see as the right direction. I am fascinated by architecture for its blend of science and art in creating something that has utility and beauty, impacts many people's environments, and stands for generations. The responsibilities of an architect are quite impressive, combining many different skills and considering the needs and views of various stakeholders in a project. I am also very excited about developments in building design and materials that will eventually provide us with buildings that generate rather than consume energy. I hope to be part of the solution to energy use reduction through architecture.

I have been fortunate to be exposed to architectural styles in Iran and the US. I am also part of the school’s ‘study abroad program’ based in Switzerland and have seen the best in European architecture during my visits. I am eagerly anticipating a further study trip to Europe in the spring semester of 2012. I love the academic environment at VT and am eager to pursue my higher studies in this positive, supportive, and challenging setting. Thus, I am applying in my fourth year of bachelor's degree studies to undertake a combined BA and MA program in my fifth year and complete the MA program in my sixth year of study.

I have always harbored a profound passion for architecture, viewing it not merely as a profession but as a calling. This innate drive fuels my aspirations to not only succeed but to excel in the field of architecture. As I embark on this journey, I am eager to delve into the realm of urban architecture research, recognizing the pivotal role it plays in shaping our cities and communities.

Moreover, I passionately believe in the importance of giving back to society. I am aware of the privilege that comes with a fulfilling and well-rewarded career, and I am committed to using my time and skills to support charitable causes and non-profit organizations. By contributing to these noble endeavors, I aim to make a meaningful impact and help these entities achieve their objectives.
