I see your distinguished program in TESOL with Translation Studies at the University of ____ as the optimal platform upon which to advance my career, particularly because of the way in which your program combines TESOL and Translation Studies in the curriculum and the fact that only your program has a practical teaching component that is integrated into the coursework an integral part of the course.  I want very much to excel and become the finest professional possible in both areas. I want to improve both my teaching skills and research ability and hope to publish at some point in my career in both areas; TESOL and Translation Studies.

I was born and raised in Jeddah Saudi Arabia, and I currently teach English as a Foreign Language. Jeddah is Saudi Arabia’s most international city, and home to large populations of foreigners from all over the world. Thus, earning the master's degree at ____ is the best option for me, since I will be able to learn a great deal about translation as well as TESOL and thus be fully prepared to make my maximum contribution to society in language learning in Jeddah. I also especially look forward to earning my degree at ____ University because of your diverse student population from all over the world, learning from my peers as well as your distinguished faculty, from their testimonies about the language and communication challenges that they face as well in their home countries.

In 2008, my mother became the first woman in our extended family to earn a PhD. In 2015, I hope to become the first woman in our family with the experience of studying abroad, coming back to my county with a new spirit after completing your program and the tools and knowledge that I will need to excel as a language and translation teacher in my country, hopefully at King Abdulaziz University. My long-term goals include eventually establishing a translation business along with other professional translators, translating formal documents and giving guidance in professional interpretation. I intend to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and lofty expectations to the classroom each day. I believe this cannot be achieved without the proper training that I hope to gain from an extraordinarily strong university program such as yours.

I am a hard worker and a fast learner, and I feel like I have a lot to give to TESOL and Translation Studies in Saudi Arabia since we have a long way to go in these areas. We don’t have many Saudi qualified translators. King Abdulaziz University is one of the biggest universities in the kingdom and they are planning to open a new branch in the European department for translation; but they have a shortage of qualified instructors. Thus, I am most interested in learning the innovative approaches to teaching English Language and applying this knowledge to my efforts to discover and implement the approaches that work best for Saudi adult students who are eager to learn the language.

I hope to become an assistant professor in Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies focused on English; training Saudi teachers to be qualified English language instructors and translators. It is my hope that starting my own translation company at some point will be complementary to my work in the university, translating all the documents from Arabic to English and vice versa; and translating for specific purposes, such as medical interpreting and in this way help doctors in Saudi Arabia who study and practice abroad in English. During my two years of experience, I have come to better understand the difficulties that Arabic-speaking students face when learning English. At the end of my first year of teaching, I received an outstanding (100%) evaluation from the Elementary Level 102 Coordinator for being an excellent team member, showing a positive attitude, and assuming great responsibilities. One of the reasons why I have excelled is because I never pass up an opportunity to attend workshops, seminars and symposiums held in Jeddah that are related to teaching English and becoming a better instructor.

In June 2013, I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English Language from the European Languages Department at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I graduated with an accumulative Grade Point Average (4.78) out of (5). In addition to Linguistics, Syntax, Phonology and Sociolinguistics, I also studied English Literature, Poetry, Drama and Literary Criticism. Last summer (August 2014), I took three courses at Oxford House College in London, and the trainers assured me that I had chosen the right career. Two of the courses were designed for overseas teachers of English: “Professional Development” and Creative Methodology” and “Language Skills", I also took a one-week advanced level course in Conversation and Pronunciation.

I very much look forward to doing research into how Saudi language learners can be assisted my media and IT tools, iPads, TV, etc. In my senior year, along with 3 other students, I began a magazine called Argo for the European languages Department. This magazine includes university news, movie, and book reviews as well as articles written by students for students on topics such as studying for examples and the importance of positive thinking. I have also benefitted from my travels. I have two brothers who are both practicing medicine in Canada and I have visited them on several occasions. I have also completed two courses in French, and I can understand this language quite well on a basic level, although it is still challenging for me to speak it.
