Two key factors drive my deep passion for professional growth in special education and my decision to apply to your program. The most significant of these is my own experience in special education classes, where I received help to overcome my difficulties in Mathematics. I am incredibly thankful for the excellent, caring, and supportive special education teachers I had. Without their extra support and accommodations, I likely wouldn't have made it to college.
My family has been committed to special education since 1976, when they established the XXXX, a therapeutic boarding school for adolescents and young adults aged 11 to 22. I worked with this program throughout college and have remained involved since graduating. This is not only my parents' primary passion and life's work; it is mine as well. Earning a master's degree from your cutting-edge program will help me advance my career and become certified as a Special Education Teacher.
My long-term goal is to work as a program developer and administrator. I have volunteered as a surrogate parent for children who are wards of the state, attending their IEP meetings to ensure they receive special education services. Currently, I serve as the academic coordinator at the XXXX School, where I take on multiple roles. Therefore, I am a strong candidate for your program because I have invested significantly in the field of Special Education, especially over the past six years since graduating from college.
The greatest asset I hope to bring to your program is my personal experience as a special needs student. I am acutely aware of the shame, anger, and hopelessness a student can feel when dealing with a learning disability. My success in overcoming my disability, graduating from college, and entering the professional workforce will continuously empower me as I strive to help other children and adolescents, inspiring them to do the same.
I am particularly interested in researching early intervention and plan to dedicate my life to advocating for special education students, serving as a teacher, role model, and beacon of hope for children and adolescents with special learning needs who often mistakenly believe they cannot achieve academic and professional success.
I am a cosmopolitan young woman committed to celebrating diversity and multiculturalism. I have traveled throughout Europe, most of the U.S., as well as Canada and parts of the Caribbean. I am eager to study in a cohort-style program online in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, taking two classes per semester, which will allow me to continue working full-time while completing my M.Ed. I also wish to express my deep gratitude for considering my application.
