My dream career is to work for the Center for Disease Control. This aspiration has been with me for many years, as I wish to dedicate my professional life to biomedical research and fighting disease. As an only child from Texas, I have always had an adventurous spirit, boundless curiosity, and a confidence that has led me on a global journey of self-discovery since graduating from college. Among my many adventures, volunteering at an orphanage near Dracula’s castle in Romania stands out. I have studied Macrobiotics and Japanese alternative medicine extensively, most recently at a centuries-old monastery in the Berkshires. I also completed a 12-week professional role recruiting international volunteers, living in a different city each week, working 13-hour days. I have ventured so far beyond my comfort zone that it no longer exists. I live to explore diverse cultures and contribute to the healing of our species and our planet.

My greatest moment of clarity occurred a couple of years ago when my best friend from third grade was diagnosed with leukemia at twenty-three. She was prescribed Gleevec for life. At that moment, while studying biochemistry, I understood her cell’s mechanisms and how this drug was saving her life! I was in awe. The Delta 32 mutation lecture felt like a Sci-fi story. My attention was riveted on Dr. XXXX, an Irish professor, as he connected the Delta 32 mutation, the bubonic plague survivors of Eyam, England, and HIV immunity. A biology lesson morphed into a time-travel adventure with Sherlock Holmes at the helm. I was captivated! It became clear that microbiology, particularly virology, was my destiny.

Some applicants may have higher grades, but I graduated debt-free because I worked long hours as a massage therapist. Now, I yearn for nothing but long hours in the lab, immersing myself in thousands of pages; social life is my lowest priority. I want to attend countless lectures. At 25, I could not be more serious. My heart, mind, body, and soul are committed to advancing science.
